LGBT Ally and I need to voice my support
This may come off as overly emotional and if it does I apologize.
All my life I've known people from the LGBT+ community. I may not have understood all of the differences when I was younger but since then I've educated myself enough to understand the differences that exist.
Today I read about the justice department and how they are treating transgender athletes and my heart breaks for the community. When will people finally understand that gender isn't as binary as we thought? When will people understand that XX and XY are not the gender predictors we thought they were? This is obviously the civil rights fight of our time and it breaks my heart to see how ignorant and fearful people become.
To anyone who is LGBT+, you will ALWAYS have a friend and ally in me. It doesn't get said enough. When people are kicked out of their homes for being gay or gender non-conforming, it can't be said enough. When people are getting killed because of who they love or who they are on the inside, it can't be said enough. When people are killing themselves because society is failing to capture and account for all of our unique experiences, it can't be said enough.
To anyone who is questioning or to anyone who knows who they truly are on the inside, I support you. I am an ally. And I will never shrink from this struggle or let anyone I know who is LGBT+ suffer ignorant attacks just for being who they are. It's sick how the world is treating the LGBT+ community, it's sick and it's wrong.
To my brothers and sisters in the community, you are VALID. Your orientation is VALID. Your gender is VALID. Who you are is VALID. Do not let anyone take away from you who you know yourself to be. There's a lot of misery in this world that delights in the suffering of others. It's okay to walk away to find a better safer place for you to live your life in happiness and peace. We're still in the stone age when it comes to this stuff but just know that there are allies just like me everywhere and we will gladly lay down our lives just so that you can live yours.
I have family members who are LGBT+ and I see the unnecessary bullshit they have to go through. I love them, and I love you all too. Please keep being the strong, wonderful, beautiful human beings that you all are. We can get through this together.
