Xbox Elite Series 2 problems and how to fix them
I bought the Elite2 brand new and from the box I had a few problems with it. I loved the Elite1 and I wanted the Elite2 especially for stick-tension and shift function, wich is fantastic, btw.
We can keep this megathread only for repairing and fixing discution. I also filmed a tutorial video with fixing those problems, the link is at the end of the post.
I am preety good at fixing things ( ~100 repaired RRoD 360s ) and I wanted to test two more Elite2 gamepads, I saw that the problem with the A/Y button is universal on all samples. I also had one friend that said his Elite2 is perfect, after I tested it, the same problem. If you are an Elite1 user and you are used with the perfection of ABXY buttons, you will see in the first minute the problem with those Elite2 buttons, there are some casual gamers that they don't see a problem on pressing only from the 90degree A and Y button.
After a few dissassembly and some fixing methods, my gamepad works like it shoud be. I will post here solutions for four problems. If you know any others methods for fixing, be free to share with us!
You can fix only the sticking A button and trigger problem without damaging the sticker from warranty. That sticker is put on the left screw from Xbox Guide Button.
- STICKING A BUTTON -> You need to take off the faceplate and rubbing it with isopropilic alcohol the near part of A button and prefferably you can eliminate the adehesive from both sides. The front plate will stay perfectly after that.
- TRIGGER PROBLEM -> If you experience something strange with the trigger, like something is blocking a little bit the way or a little sound, you just need to unscrew a little, 45degree, the screw that is near the trigger. This problem will appear if the screw is too tight and the trigger will touch the backplate.
- BACK PADDLE DOESN'T CLICK -> My P4 paddle was working good but it didn't make the click and was preety annoying, I want to feel when the command is registered. You need to unscrew the 4 T8screws and after that you will see a small board near the paddles with two T3 screws. My board was in a preety bad shape, had an adhesive on it and was preety damaged, i taked off the extra adehsive and I cut the metal part that was bending. Now it sounds exaclty like the others!
- THE UNRESPONSIVVE A / Y BUTTON -> That is the most serious problem with Elite 2. My A and Y button were very unresposive from some angles. The X and B buttons were fine. First time I tried to buy a rubber-conductive pad for XboxOneS gamepad and cut only ABXY buttons. The original pad from Elite 2 was preety low quality, the conductive part didn't had the specific pattern. With the replacement rubber, everyting was better but not perfect, still there are some angles where the problems with A/Y appear. After some try-and-error I found the problem, the only problem with the face buttons is the space beetween the button and the shell, it is too large and the button will wiggle and it will let you to create some pressing angles that doesn't register the command. After that I tried to put some paper with one part adhesive on the button to stay more fixed, like putting a tape from 360degrees. It worked, it worked! After every change I tried the gamepad on the Accesory-Test-Menu. The face buttons were working perfectly now but it still had a little problem, my tape was a little too tick and the button was staying very fixed. After that I tried with some thin duct tape and was much better. Minute 08:40 from the Youtube video, the thinner is the tape, the better!
Now my gamepad works infinty better that the first day but if you find some alternate methode to fix the unresponssive A/Y buttons, please post it here!
The duct tape method works perfectly but I can feel it a little on my thumbs.
If you just bough an Elite2 and you have the last problem, I think it's useless to return it back to the store and pick another one, I think this is the problem with all the samples, the space beetween buttons and plastic shell is too large, it need to stay more fit inside!!!
