Special Needs Galah for rehome - Los Angeles, CA

There’s kind of a lot to cover with her so I’ll provide basics and elaborate further for people who are interested.

Her name is Rosie and she is turning 3 this year. You may have seen posts about her from me on here. I live in a household with a lot of birds (important for later). I took Rosie in last August upon recommendation from my vet, as I have another special needs galah and she thought a companion would help his situation. She has always been very unsteady on her feet, and generally a very weak bird/a runt of sorts. I was able to improve her condition but wasn’t seeing a huge amount of improvement overall, so I decided to run some tests as per my vet’s recommendation.

It turns out that Rosie is positive for Avian Bornavirus. This is a virus that can cause issues quite similar to what Rosie displays (weakness, instability, etc). It’s sort of like the bird version of HIV. It is contagious, which is why I must unfortunately find her a home. Having her here poses too much risk to my birds and my mom’s birds. She cannot live with other birds unless those birds also have Bornavirus.

Over time I have kept in contact with her previous owner, who has occasionally taken her on weekends when I was working because she cares very much for Rosie, but only wanted the best for her. Unfortunately she is not in a position to take Rosie back, so together we decided that we should find her a home that will be able to provide her the best possible care.

I want to talk to potential adoptees and make sure it is a good fit. Rosie has a very easy personality - she doesn’t bite, but is very loud for a lot of the day when she isn’t directly getting attention, so I don’t think an apartment would be a good fit unless somehow noise isn’t an issue. She is special needs as I mentioned above, but her cage is set up in such a way that you shouldn’t have to worry about her too much. She will require veterinary expenses so I want to make sure that whoever takes her is able to support her financially (I won’t poke and prod into your income or whatever, but want to discuss possible vet costs and make sure it’s okay).

All in all she will come with her cage, toys, bowls, a UV lamp, as well as a written document to aid with her care. She requires somewhat special grooming, so I am also willing to provide that for her as well.

Shoot me a PM if you live in the Los Angeles area, don’t have any other birds, and are willing to take on a special needs bird. I realize I may sound over the top with my requirements, but I only want what is best for her. Feel free to ask any questions as well.

Edit - I am willing to consider people outside of Los Angeles if it is an absolutely perfect fit, but I will not ship her. I am asking a $150 rehoming fee which I think is fair given what she comes with.
