I built a web app for Malaysian book buyers - BukuTip: search and compare book prices from various Malaysian bookstores. Feedback welcomed.

Hey , great app. I like the minimalist web 2.0 layout. Simple and nice.
Its unfortunate that borders malaysia doesn't have a website right ?
Thanks. Yeah, too bad there's no Malaysian Borders site. But I heard Borders US is closing down, wonder if this affects Malaysia?
WOW, I just wiki'd it. They are BANKRUPT and are closing 200 stores in the US !
Anyways, I'm showing the site to my friends and sharing on facebook. Good job ! :)
Borders at Times Square already sold off 90% of their stock at clearance prices and moved to a little shop in the basement. I wouldn't be terribly optimistic about their future here. It's a shame; while Kinokuniya kicked their ass in selection, most of their books are shrink-wrapped so you can't browse before buying. At Borders you could flip through the books, which had me making a lot more purchases there.
Since coming to Malaysia about 2 years ago, I've never understood that thing with shrink-wrapping the books and not allowing for browsing. I've bought so many books based on bookstore browsing. It's very rare that I go into a bookstore knowing what I want.
I'm a big fan of the cheap place on the top floor of Amcorp Mall (PJ), myself. I can't think of the name, though. There might be more of them.
You mean the place that has all of last year's bestsellers on the left wall for RM17? Yeah, I used to go there a lot too before I got too lazy to visit PJ anymore.
Wow great app! I like the straightforwardness of it.Any chance you'll be doing a used-book one after this? :p I find it hard to find second hand books online other than through Mudah.my or LY.net forums.
BukuTip already searches Mudah.my for used books, it's just that the results might be limited. I have plans add eBay (and now LY.net).
You are an amazing app developer. Have an upvote!
Nicely done my fellow malaysian. Keep your site clean and light. Don't stop with only this.
The code is now open source, btw :)
Great stuff. How difficult it is to add other sites? Dawama, ujanailmu are the two sites used by most Malay readers.
I have to admin I don't really read Malay books :), so I didn't know about those sites. I'll look into them... Thanks.
Awesome :) it seems to be better than most of the local websites I've seen
I love it. It looks sweet — but I tried searching for a book I contributed in, but didn't find it. I know for a fact it's available at Kinokuniya and Borders, though. Oh well — I think I'll be using this a lot.
Is there any way you could link it with, say, the database at BookXcess? They have the cheapest brand new books, and knowing you can get a book for RM17 instead of RM57 can make a huge deal of difference!
Great work, all around.
Thanks! :)
Your book was probably not included in Google Books, try searching there. I use Google to initially search for books and then look up Kino/MPH/etc. for prices.
BookXcess was already linked in but I had to disable it for the moment because of technical issues (their "database" is just a list of PDF files, which are harder to parse). I'll let you know when its up again.
Great app :)
Nothing constructive to add, but good job. How are the prices updated btw?
Thanks.
Screen scraping. If the book isn't already in the database, the prices are directly retrieved from the bookstore's website.
