What are your favourite streamer, terrestrial, "meat", and other patterns for trout?

Like many of you I have been stuck in the house tying my brains out but I am getting bored of the same bugs I have been tying for months and am turning to this community for inspiration for something that I can chase some big browns with.

So what are your favorite patterns for trout and why?

A pretty simple one to tie is the Chernobyl Ant or the Chubby Chernobyl.

I have been pondering getting into foamies and the Chernobyl Ant was high on that list.

I've tied a few-dozen Chubby Chernobyls in a bunch of different color combos during quarantine in hopes that I'll be able to fish the Deschutes salmonfly hatch this year.

I really love tying the missing link caddis pattern. Definitely a great effective fly.

Yeah. It’s pretty easy to tie and rides nice and high on the water.

Galloups bangtail is my number one. Swimming Jimmy is a close second.

Reason? They are castable with my 5/6 weight, they look great in the water, and they catch fish

Yep! Kills trout and bass

I've really enjoyed tying and fishing Turks Tarantula. Floats well, hits the water with a good splat that can lure some fish from the bottom to crush it. You can even swing and retrieve it as a streamer.

I’ll second this one. I’ve only ever fished it for bluegill, panfish, and bass, but it’s super fun to splat on the water and watch big bluegill suck down.

I’ve just started streamer fishing, but my buddies swear by the Furburger and I know a few guys who fish it in different colors almost exclusively when trout fishing. Here’s a video on tying it:

That is some fucking hotness right there. I am pumped to give these a go.

Haha yeah man! I’ve been tying up a bunch of them while on lockdown.

Big browns!

A Master Splinter for topwater. I do a personal variation putting a deer hair head on the fly. Nighttime mousing is an absolute blast.

For the shoulder times, a black (with red highlights) sex dungeon. These are for sunset until dark. At dark, you pull out the master splinter.

Master splinter? Sex dungeon?

Do you slow strip or more baitfish strip with these? I have never fish a mouse pattern.

Those are the two heavy hitters (and the two best videos too!)

For the sex dungeon, it really depends on the situation. Most of the time, I will swing the fly with a jerky retrieve. My personal fave is actually a size that is between the dungeon in the video and a mini-dungeon.

There are a gazillion ways to fish a mouse. I have personally found that rapid 3-5cm strips (i.e. little paddling legs) to be the most effective, but I have also swung them and used long slow strips. The key thing about fishing a mouse pattern is *when* you fish it, not *how*. And *when* is in the summer, in the middle of the night.

Terrestial: ants, pink or black Streamer: white spuddler size 6-8 Meat: killer bug variations Other: winnie the pooh and klinkhåmer (both are dry flies) If nothing else works then I use Zulu and Red Tag.

I mostly fish Scandinavian Lapland area.

I've been tinkering with midges. Bored I tied up a blood red and used gold wire along with some tan dubbing. Hit a run with it the other day just to see how it worked, they loved it.

Today I tied more along with some midges using peacock herl, gold wire, a bead, and tan dubbing. Fishing those in the am.

The patterns I want to learn how to tie (I've only been at it a few months) are elk hairs and BWOs. I do more dry fly fishing than anything else, those are the bugs I used the most.
