The new "Reddit Solidarity" award is just reddit tricking their users into helping them avoid taxes.
The entire concept of giving your money to one entity who will in turn pass it off to another is just a shady business practice to earn good will from consumers who aren't smart enough to see past their own nose and allow these shady business's to write off millions in taxes because they stole the write off from the suckers who gave them the 4 bucks.
Anybody who gives reddit money is only helping them to dodge their tax burden. But of course, as much as reddit talks about how everybody should pay their fair share, they certainly don't think about their actions in helping companies avoid paying that fair share.

I'm confused on what you mean by tax write off. I though the award money goes into the cost of running the website, reddit only makes around 119 million in revenue. Compare that to the billions twitter and facebook makes.
The solidarity award is a direct payment to reddit that reddit says they will donate to the WHO. You could donate directly yourself, save the e-receipt and use it as a write off in your own taxes. Reddit desires to take that write off from you in order to pad their own bottom line.
This isn't saying reddit is worse than facebook or twitter. Multiple companies do this exact same scam annually. Ever been asked for a donation at the register of your local super market?
Every dollar you donate is one dollar less that company now no longer owes uncle sam.
You're paying their taxes for them.
Yah gotcha, I wasn't aware about that new award until you just told me.
Boy the comments in the announcement thread are a wild ride.
It's only gonna get wilder as this shit ramps up. The sad thing is people like reddit are looking to profit.
Maybe it’s for people who pay for reddit premium? And don’t want to spend more money but want to donate? idk
Or Reddit just wants the million or so in tax write offs? Again, this is not a brand new scam. This is done annually by the largest corporations on the planet because people aren't smart enough to see the swindle.
Not nearly as bad as what amazon does to avoid taxes tho
Whoa. You itemize deductions?
I'm saving this thread.
Learning so much.
Shame it only got 5 upvotes.
The world need to see this.
