As a coding excersise, I made an app that allows you to upload an image, and turn it majority black, all within your browser!.

Features:

  • All client side, nothing uploaded to a server
  • Image stats displayed in browser
  • Lightweight, only 155kb gzipped
  • Works on mobile, offline, and can save as an app on iOS.

Open Source

You can find the repo for it here. I am open to pull requests from anyone and will be improving and cleaning up the app in the days/weeks to come.

Also since it's hosted on GitLab, I can utilize GitLab pages for free hosting.

How to use:

Note: This help message is also displayed in the app

  1. Upload an image using the file input
  2. Drag the RGB sliders to something >0
  3. Click manipulate
  4. Any pixel who's R, G, and B values are less than all thresholds will be set to pure black (#000000)
  5. The updated image will show up in the preview pane. You can save the image from here just like you would any other image in your browser.

It's that simple!

Enjoy!
