New self-promotion guidelines, applicable mostly to videos
Hey all!
Thanks so much for using the sub!
We've noticed that some users are using this subreddit to promote their video content. While that's fine, the truth of the matter is that these posts reek of self-advertising.
We wanted to lay down a couple of guidelines to preserve the quality of our subreddit:
-
As of the time of this post, we will henceforth be removing RMT/Team Report/Battle Stadium videos that qualify as self-promotion. In the future, please limit these posts to TEXT and IMAGE posts*.
-
Please follow reddiquette. If you're going to be posting your videos to this subreddit, you should be actively contributing to RMTs and discussion elsewhere. As a general rule, at most 1 out of every 10 posts of yours to this subreddit should be promoting your own content.
Here are some video topics that are appropriate, given that posters are following etiquette:
-
Educational posts. Teambuilding guides, mechanics. Metagame updates (One-off analyses of specific pokemon are pretty spammy, especially if that Pokemon is underused. Let’s try to keep things more general)
-
Match analysis of high ranked games are always useful
-
VODs of high-profile or official events, especially ones that aren't yours that interest you (If you're going to post your Swiss rounds from an online tournament, post it as one playlist)
As always, we love to see your content in written form, and we will not be making restrictions in this way. Please understand why this is different from video content with regards to self-promotion: we want to be a hub for VGC content and not a launching point for people's YouTube careers. Sorry to those hopefuls.
*: We're well aware that there are similar complaints about the quality of RMT posts. Very soon we will be rolling out new guidelines for RMT posts in an effort to guarantee their quality, while still allowing users to get helpful feedback.
Thanks! Aaron
