2.5.4 Chapter Discussion (Spoilers up to 2.5.4)

Spoiler

Discussion Prompts:

  1. Anyone else impressed with how athletic Valjean is at his age?
  2. Foiled by the fake door!
  3. Do you think that reading this chase day by day instead of all at once heightens or lessens the suspense?

Final Line:

A person could easily tear off a plank, but you would only find yourself staring at a blank wall.

I don’t know if I’m not good at visualisation but once again Hugo’s descriptions just confused me! I got that he found a wall and climbed it but that’s about it!

He must be working out on the side to keep his strength.

Here's a map provided from a podcast that I'm listening to while reading. The very first thing you will want to do is click off Part V. There are spoilers in the map points. You, then, would need to click onto Part II. There are very mild spoilers in these map points but less important than the Part V spoilers.

I am reading Dune alongside and it kinda feels slow and relatively boring to read Les Miserables. Stretchy.

I had a little trouble accurately visualizing the architecture of the building(s) described. This is a scenario that I'm sure watching any of the adaptations would clarify. Regardless, I'm still on the edge of my seat! Victor Hugo AKA Cliffhanger Jones.

That damned door. I would have a breakdown.

Reading it day by day adds to the suspense for me. Partly just because I know that even as soon as something of consequence happens, we will be cut off from knowing the full outcome for at least another day. Every little bit of information weighs heavily because of this.

I found some elements of the description quite vivid, but the full picture was hard to imagine. All the same, an exciting (though short) chapter. Kept us hoping until the very less sentence!
