What are some good alternatives to the TR-X00 Purple Heart since they're never coming back?

Headphones - Closed Back

The purple hearts are some of my favorite headphones ever. I eventually wanted to get a pair for a friend along with one of my favorite amp/dac set ups, but they're apparently no longer available for the foreseeable future. And I don't know how any of the Denon headphones stack up. I remember the comparisons on Innerfidelity saying the TR-X00 were some of the best of the bunch. What other V shaped deep extending bass headphones are a good option under $1000 or around the same price as the purple hearts?

I think honestly the best thing would be to keep an eye out for used pairs. They go quick when they pop up, but they do pop up - they’re not super rare. Helps if you find an E-MU version as well; they use the same Fostex driver, and I think you can buy different wood types (like Purpleheart) separately.

They’re very unique headphones; fortunately, that driver comes in enough variations where it shouldn’t be too hard to come by.

That's true. I also have the mahogany though, and it's way worse than the purple heart version. Little afraid of the Denon D series to have the same faults. Not jumping on that 5200 any time soon. 😣

Yeah, and the Denon series seem a little too overpriced for me. Might be worth a look if it comes up used though. Or perhaps an older Denon. I saw a D7000 pop up just the other day, which was their flagship 5 years ago.
