I just binge watched a bunch of old school police training videos and really want to buy a wheel gun now

My pre-purchase antics were not unlike your own.

There's nothing quite like pulling that trigger and feeling all the little clockwork mechanisms cycle the cylinder into place.

As someone who started my police career in ‘68, and who carried a revolver up until the mid-80s... I have to admit I never felt under-armed with my 4” Model 19. (.357 Magnum) Mine wore Herrett’s “Jordan Trooper” grips and I’d had the action smoothed a bit... Combination made for the best double-action shooting I’d experienced.

The title is referring to the post about the sweet stainless Hi-Power.

This is my S&W 586 .357 Magnum with a 4" barrel. I too found I enjoyed the feeling of a heavy reliable brick on my hip and this one is deadly accurate. I have other handguns but this is my favorite to carry, crossdraw under a jacket.

I've been looking into getting one of these... They just. look. awesome.

Did you check out the Model 27? What drew you to the 586?

1
foob85OP•

I did look at the Model 27. I went with the 586 because it came with target grips and it cost about $300 less.

2
bryper87•

Sounds about right. Well, enjoy! That’s a sweet gun I hope to add to my collection some day.

2
foob85OP•

Thanks! The tapered barrel on the 27 is damn cool though. I can't recommend the 586 enough.

Did you have to place a bet with the bookies for Boris to get it?

Sneaky fucking Russian

David_milksoap•

Very cool. Was it a duty piece? I have one with the longer barrel cal highway patrol

3
foob85OP•

Nope, it's a new one. I bet that old Highway Patrol has a sweet trigger.

4
David_milksoap•

Yeah it’s like late 70’s. The old ones are so sick. Been wanting one of the newer ones. They seem like a good deal... idk my lgs has a chrome snub 357 python I been eyeing aswell

Just so you know, you can tell the more modern S&Ws when we see the left side of the gun pretty easily. You can see the "Hillary hole" as it is often referred to. The lock is plain to see above the cylinder release.

Many corrections agencies still issue revolvers because they don't want to invest in advanced firearms training/maintenance, because they never use them. There are probably some Hillary-hole Wessies out there in service.

What model is that?

2
foob85OP•

Just made the info comment. It's a S&W 586 with a 4" barrel.

2
CrazyJoe321•

Haha, thank you. Beautiful gun :)

TheThreeLaws•

I don't really carry it, but I love my 4" 686 (no dash). Such a classy, well balanced gun.

Yours is beautiful.

I carry mine occasionally in a galco combat master. A bit floppy, but not too bad.

2
foob85OP•

I might fork out for a Galco someday. Right now I have a Front Line leather thumb break crossdraw hybrid holster, they are made in Israel. It's considered a cheaper leather holster and I got it to transition to a custom piece, but I have been extremely impressed with it so far. The fit and draw angle are excellent. The Israelis know their guns.

Badass Hebrews

I dig it.

Just recently bought the exact same pistol a month or so back and I enjoy it. First pistol I ever bought and shoots like a dream. Just gotta wait till this corona blows over so I can get my CCL to carry it.

It's an outstanding shooter. Mine was accurate to 15 yards right out of the box. Enjoy your new buddy.
