DCS VR Reverb Sharp cockpit, blurry hud. NEED HELP

TECH-SUPPORT

Hey, sorry to bother you all with this.

ive ran into a very tiring issue. The main problem i encounter at the moment is that when im in VR, the cockpit is super nice and crisp, but it takes my eyes a good second to focus on the hud, and when that happens i can not even glance to the hud frame left/right (F-16 for example) without it being super blurry.

I dont have similar issues when looking at my DED and glancing down at my right MFD.

I just dont know what to do anymore, i have played around with the IPD, ive enabled the debug tool for cross-eyed-ish issues but i cant seem to change the sliders to "work".

Maybe i just have wrong expectations of how a hud should work, but to me it feels like the HUD imagery is 10 feet infront of the aircraft instead of floating between the HUD frame.

is this how other users percieve this? is this how it actually "works"? am i trying to change something i can not change as it is intended?

i feel like i should be able to look at my hud and glance down at my icp and be able to read it. Right?

Thank you!

When you say debug tool, do you mean the one mentioned in this thread?

Real HUDs use a collimating lens so they do appear at “infinity”. DCS gets this right in VR. If, however, it takes one second for your eyes to converge from 50cm to infinity, then something if up with your headset display, your vision, or the way they interact.

negative, sorry i used this:

its weird, its so hard to describe a 3D effect without a 2D reference.

i just feel like im tunnel visioning on the HUD. So hard to describe.

Everything about VR is hard to describe! :)

Maybe try that tool, then. I really suspect something is going on with the alignment/convergence of your eyes in your headset. Do you know your actual IPD?

Edit: It could just be expectation though... maybe. You can’t have everything converged at the same time because VR is “too good”. You can’t have everything converged at the same time in real life either.

Pretty sure these are all inherent things with VR optics, for example when I focus on the hud I sort of see double hud frames. But I haven’t found a way to fix these types of issues, including their debug tool like you said.

Anyway, the hud is projected into infinity so the way you’re seeing it is realistic, and is probably just a side effect of that. But I’m no expert.

Anything not in the center of the lens is blurry, which might also be part of what you’re talking about. That is definitely just an optics limitation. You have to focus the center of your vision on whatever you want to read by moving your head around a lot.

yeah exaclty, man thats weird.

Maybe i just have a weird or off sense of what a HUD should be like or would be like.

I thought it would be way more crisp like it is for 2D. Im having a blast but this HUD thing... idk :/

Its probably an IPD thing, having gone through similar with a different headset.

I would suggest sitting in the cockpit and slowly adjust the IPD all the way to the smallest setting, and record results, then slowly go all the way to the widest, recording results.

Hopefully you'll be able to find your sweet spot.

The HUD seems to represent a good, yet slightly weird, measuring stick as its focused at infinity so it looks extremely off even when the IPD is 'close' to correct. I also think this highlights the difference between what am optician measures your IPD as, vs what a manufacturer claims a headset IPD is set at. Its like shoe sizes, theyre all standardised, yet every one is different...
