Serious App Problems

So I'm new to this app but I've got a few questions - Uber knows I'm using a car, it made me take a freakin photo of it. It asked for my insurance and everything. Even got a pretty decent photo of me. WHY IN THE NAME OF SWEET BABY JESUS DOESN'T IT LET ME USE APPLE MAPS TO NAVIGATE AS IT SEEMS TO NOT BE ABLE TO KNOW WHERE THE HELL I AM? It took me down what is essentially a one-way bike path through a neighborhood with only two major roads in it. Also, during the entire ride as it's just yelling out random street names to turn at but not which side of the road anything is on, it's sending me request after request after request. Exactly when am I supposed to drive when using this app? I spent 30 minutes careening around a neighborhood trying to avoid bikers and children and stop signs only to be robotically told that I had just passed where I was meant to go. Any suggestions are helpful.
