Okay, so it’s my first time writing an AITA here and I’m not a native speaker, so I hope you’ll excuse any mistakes I make.

It happened a few months ago when I was still pregnant and before corona sent us all (officially) into a ... well whatever you wanna call this mental meltdown.

I was out, picking up a few things from the store. I had a significant baby belly because I was about 30ws pregnant.
So there I was, strolling the aisle with the cereals as I remembered that we were short on them and minding my own business when an elderly woman (maybe in her 70s or older) appeared next to me. She stood there for about a minute or something lo

NAH - Obviously you aren’t a asshole for wanting people to respect your personal space. However, the elderly woman may suffer from Alzheimer’s or another neurodegenerative disease which may hurt her ability to have normal social interactions.

Neither of you are in the wrong! Don’t worry she may of just thought it was okay to do and didn’t expect the reaction from you.

ESH. You could have done many other things, such as walking away or talking kindly as you push the hand off.

Since I have a background with being touched unwanted I may react to “well intentioned” touches by strangers a bit harsh.
It’s at least an invasion of my privacy so it kinda ruined my day too.

No matter what no one has the right to touch another. They may be trying to be nice but unwanted touching can set someone off. Just because you have good intentions doesn't mean you can do what you think is ok.

YTA I think. Maybe you didn’t like it but I can’t imagine why you had such a negative reaction. She was trying to be friendly, perhaps she was over familiar but still only well intentioned. You probably ruined her day for basically no reason other than a touch

NTA AT ALL!!! Just because youre pregnant, your body is not public domain. Preach it sister, louder for the people in the back!!!!

What is happening in these comments. NTA. Don't. Fucking. Touch. Strangers. Good for you for calling her on it.

NTA - simply put, she assaulted you. She laid her hands on you and you did not consent to that. It’s gross when people think they are entitled to your body — especially a pregnant woman’s body. Just because you’re growing a baby doesn’t mean your body stops being yours. You did the right thing by defending yourself.

I can understand not reacting the way you would normally in this situation, especially with that background. People really need to respect pregnant women's personal space, I've never been pregnant but I know I wouldnt want anyone to touch me.

That’s why I apologised right afterwards. It’s out of character for me to make such a comment to a stranger but it was kind of a panic reaction? Since I have some background with being touched unwanted.

ESH. She really didnt have to touch your belly, especially when she's with a stranger, but I think the wrinkle thing was a bit uncalled for.

NTA. You don't touch some random person. No one is exempt from this rule not even an old lady.

NTA- you could probably have phrased things better, but she physically touched you without your consent. That is not ok. No one has the right to touch you, and doing it just because you’re pregnant is a terrible excuse in my opinion. You wouldn’t let that lady touch your child when it’s born, so why let her do so when it is unborn?
I think you were 100% within your rights to do what you did.

NTA-

These people in the comments are delusional! If she didn’t want to get snapped at, she shouldn’t have touched your belly! It’s your belly, not hers.

NTA I hate it that people just think they can touch people without asking. You are right when you say that being pregnant does not give people free reign to touch your belly without asking. When my best friend was pregnant I still never touched her without asking and I’d known her for over 15 years.
