description: (This is a oneshot based off of You Were Sanitized, my fanfiction)
Life had been ideal for Sushi and Pistachio. Sure, Sushi has a hard time supporting the two, but they were happy.
Then one day, Pistachio hears "the call"- a ringing in her mind that doesn't stop.
The two head down into the metro, and the ringing stops.
Pistachio is filled with relief, until she sees a former comrade aiming some sort of launcher at Sushi.
It's an immediate headshot, and a certain goop latches onto Sushi's head, and seeps into her mind...
The actual story:
"...I can't ignore this, Sushi." She mumbled sleepily, rubbing her eyes and staring at me with the dull expression she always had.
"...I don't think it's a good idea, Stachi.." I responded, burying my face in her arm and yawning. It was way too early in the morning... or maybe too late at night.
"I have to. Just to make the noise stop. I'll be back." Pistachio rubbed my head, slipping out of bed and ducking into the bathroom to change.
I rubbed my sleepy eyes, and decided I'd come with. I grabbed my clothes and changed myself, meeting her at the front door.
Pistachio put her hand on the door handle, slowly creaking it open, wordlessly.
I followed her out the door, down the street, and into the square. She held my hand the whole way, and when we reached the subway, she had to stop to hold her head.
"Stachi, are you ok?" I immediately went to support her trembling body.
"...it's louder. Come on, let's get to the deepsea metro."
She led me down a path I'd never been through and we descended downwards... until we reached a platform with a subway train.
There were the remains of a giant blender on the floor. I stared at Pistachio, and she sighed.
"It stopped. I am.. sorry, you had to follow me. I guess I had to see this." She mumbled the last part, staring mournfully at the blender. I saw flashes of grief in her eyes. I wondered what exactly happened here.
She shot her head up, whipping back around to look at me and screaming.
"Sushi, behind y—"
I felt something hit the side of my face. "..huh?"
It was.. pulsating, sort of. Warm and pulsating and...
Pistachio stepped back, staring behind me before rushing past me. I stumbled.
'And now you're mine..' a voice I couldn't recognize whispered into my ear as I struggled to keep balance.
It was so slow at first, but I was losing important things. What.. What did my parents look like? Their faces were blurred. Then their bodies, and then... a blank, empty void where they should have been, until even the thought of me having parents was gone.
I fell to my knees. I started to forget more, but I can't remember what it was I was forgetting. Turf war maps I memorized faded from my head, and Inkopolis... what was Inkopolis? I felt like I was holding onto a bunch of marbles, but they were all slipping from my hands and I...
One thing remained. Her face. Who was she? Her face was so familiar, and even though I had felt cold, and the voice told me to sleep...
I couldn't help but smile as I hit the ground. What a nice commander, to allow me to hold onto this special thing for just a little longer.
But then my eyes closed, and the girl was gone.
I had no idea of anything anymore, or how long it had been. I just stood up and walked just as ordered. I stopped in front of some... disobedient solider. Her face showed horror.
"Sushi..?" Her voice echoed inside my home. How dare she leave us? How dare she leave such a wonderful paradise?
I just smiled, so wide my cheeks hurt. What a lovely commander, to let me smile so wide. I must be the luckiest person in the world.
The octoling in front of me backed up, and I watched her desperately try to talk to me. The words meant nothing to me. Commander wouldn't want me to hear the words of a traitor.
I looked at my hands. How funny... I didn't remember picking up dualies. How nice of the commander.
I pointed my weapon at the octoling, and all she could do was tremble.
"Wake up... it's me! Pistachio!"
P...istachio?
My hands trembled.
'She has no use to us.' The voice said.
I fired, purple ink hitting her shoulder. She hissed, but did not move. Was she redeeming herself by allowing commander to let me terminate her?
"...I can't fight you, Sushi. I have the same ink as... Them. You'll only fall deeper."
That name.. Sushi. Why did I want to...
No. It has no use to me. I only need commander.
I fired again, she bared it once more.
"Do you remember how I got my name?"
I... did not have memories. I did not need memories. They would only lead me astray.
"We went to the park. There was an ice cream truck and..." her voice trailed off. She was smiling, almost mournfully. But why did she mourn for me? I have commander.
"You bought me Pistachio ice cream. It was the first thing I ever really liked on the surface... so you started calling me pistachio."
How stupid. What a stupid story, what stupid tears to fall down my face, and what stupid fingers to refuse to fire again. It would just take one more good aim. One more good..
"...l know you're lost. But I refuse to believe that sweet inkling isn't in there."
'You are not in there. I am everything, I am your entirety.'
I cannot use my dualies. I cannot see in front of me, I cannot disappoint commander after all these years of waiting...
I feel so blank.
Her voice is softening, her footsteps echoing. "Come here. Put down the dualies and come here."
No strength. Commander's voice had grown harsh, but no strength came. My hands dropped. The sanitized octoling could only wrap her arms around me. I fell to my knees.
Hours passed like this. At least, I think they were hours. I didn't know, but slowly the pulsating around my eyes stopped, and I noticed the goop around my head was now in a pile on the floor. I still felt empty.
"...I'm here. I am here and you are going to be alright."
I blinked. I could not hear commander's voice. Where was I? I'm cold... I want my mom.
My mom... I have a mom. I have a mom and a dad and I ran from home... I went to play turf wars and got myself an apartment... and I saved an octoling. The same octoling that held me now. I felt like I was at the back of my own head, crawling through mud to try to get to my eyes.
"And I'm positive your face is goop free now. All that's left for you to do is wake up."
I am awake, Stachi.. I'm awake, I'm tired, I'm cold and I want my plushies.
She flipped me on my back, resting my head on her lap and staring into my eyes, taking off the shades that she hates to take off and staring into my eyes.
I'm trying to reach the front... I'm trying very hard.
I balled my hand into a fist. I'm very shaky but I was able to do it after a few minutes. I dug my claws into the palm of my hand until I teared up.
That was better. I felt awake now. I blinked for a really long time until I could see.
"...there you are." Pistachio finally said, pulling me up and letting my head rest against her shoulder.
She lifted up my legs, carrying me bridal style.
I couldn't do anything else but giggle and mumble, "hehe... I'm.. special."
Pistachio just sighed, and out of the metro we went. I had to cover my eyes. It was afternoon by now and the square was filled with people. I didn't even remember getting back home, I just closed my eyes and let all my memories fill me.
Pistachio made lunch today, and she made my favorite. Mac and Cheese. I ate it all, and it brought back all my memories of the times I ate it and put them all back in their place. We then watched turf wars and all my memories of that got put back in place.
"...so, you know who you are, right?" Pistachio asked me after about 2 hours of nonstop couch potatoing.
I looked up at her and smiled. "I'm Sushi Musume, and I'll be ok."
