Why are there so many cool words to address men but basically none to address women?
Male: dude, guy, bro, man, fella
When referring to guys, I tend to say things like “That’s great, dude” or “What’s up, man?” but there aren’t really any such words as forms of address for women.
You can say “girl,” but that implies age and can be condescending. You can say “gal,” but that sounds awkward and old-fashioned because it’s so uncommonly used. You can’t really say “woman” either because it’s not quite used as a form of address (like, nobody says “What’s up, woman?” like people say “What’s up, man?”). Then there’s “dudette,” but let’s be real here: nobody uses that unironically.
I guess there’s “sis”? Kind of the female version of “bro”? Although I don’t really feel comfortable calling women “sis,” but maybe that’s on me.
So what’s the dealio with this, huh?
