How big of an improvement would it be for FPS gaming going from a (34" ultrawide 1440P 100hz IPS) to a (27" 1440P 144hz TN) (both G-SYNC)???

Discussion

This is purely from a competitive standpoint and not considering how pretty the colors are or the viewing angles.

For example lets say both monitors are ASUS ROG offerings. And the video card running them is a 2080Ti with no CPU bottleneck.

For competitive you want 24'' 240hz. I have had a 34'' 1440p 100hz for 2 years and recently got a 24'' 240hz IPS and it's a game changer without the color drawbacks. Wasn't expecting to like it as much as I do. I mainly play CSGO.

Correct.

That's not what I see pro streamers recommend. Not saying you're wrong, but I wonder why. Maybe because they get paid to push people to buy expensive hardware...

Pro streamers get paid to entertain. Pro players get paid to be competitive and they all use 24'' 240hz. All the pro CS streamers use 24'' 240hz.

Majority of Pro streamers are not pro gamers. They are also walking adverts pushing whatever product company paid them to push.

24'' 1080p 240hz is standard in tournaments so they will replicate that when gaming at home.

Can you go into detail on how much of an advantage you get from 24" 1080P 240hz vs 27" 1440P 144hz?

Depends on what type of gamer you are. Fast twitch shooters like csgo can benefit from having a smaller screen size which means your peripheral vision can detect enemy better.

But imo the real reason is because pro gamers want the most fps they can. Going up to 1440p means less fps

I'm going to weigh in here because I have first-hand knowledge. I went from a 34" Ultrawide 100hz down to a 27" 165hz simply because I play competitive shooters and it actually made a big difference for the better. 34" is more cinematic, but 27" or 24" high refresh rate is just better for competitive games IMO. Also doesn't hurt that 16:9 has zero compatibility issues. As much as ultrawide has improved, it's still wonky in a lot of games (and I have a steam library of over 400 games).

Thanks for clearing this up for me.
