How would I keep hamsters from overheating if I had to take them on a 12 hour car trip?

This question is hypothetical, but I’m facing potentially having to move due to Covid 19.

Could you possibly drive during the night when it's colder?

You could put a bathroom tile, a terracotta hide and similar things that are cold in your hamster's enclosure.

Night time and AC, as the other comments said.

Well-ventilated travel case, open window if you live in a very warm place. Take a cooler with you and put in some chilled/cool fruit and water every now and again. In a 12 hour car trip in a warm climate, microorganisms are more common in the water (microbes, mold, algae)

If you have one of those cooling boxes that you can stick bottles of water in you could get some ice packs the solid plastic ones and put a few of them in instead just place one into or next to your hamsters cage or what ever you would be transporting him in should keep him nice and cool I do this when my hamster over heats during heatwaves and they usually lay on them or next to the part of the cage where I placed it at.

Also pieces are tile work great for keeping them cool dont know if it would work in a car situation but it does in the house so you could try just place it in a cooling box for a minute or two and your hamster will feel great if they are too hot.
