With the hopes we don’t repeat the same terrible mistakes.
I agree with that but I don’t think you need a Holocaust or commit war crimes to know that having a Holocaust or committing war crimes is a bad thing
If that was true the holocaust wouldn’t have happened. How and why these types gain and hold power is important to learn.
That makes no sense. We don’t learn history so we don’t repeat it, we learn it because it happened. You shouldn’t have to watch someone putting a metal fork in an outlet then getting electrocuted to know it’s bad. It happened because the people were taken advantage of.
Well actually the geopolitical complexities of Hitler turning a democratic nation into an autocratic dictatorship bent on world domination and persuading its military to systematically murder their own citizens its pretty important to learn... kinda the same way teaching a toddler to not put a fork in an outlet is important. Like a toddler not understanding the danger of its actions people who do not understand the hows and whys of atrocities are going to end up eventually repeating these mistakes.
There are demagogue in power around the world now using the exact same tricks, our best weapon against it is examples and lessons learned in the past.
teaching 10 years old how great Alexander and Genghis Khan were... sure they will get the good part of it...
During an interview with US Attorney Bill Barr about the decision to not pursue charges against admitted felon Michael Flynn, the following exchange occurred.
Catherine Herridge: "When history looks back on this decision, how do you think it will be written?"
Attorney General Barr: "Well history is written by the winners so it largely depends on who's writing the history."
All we HAVE are violent and greedy rulers.
