#Welcome to Swedish Snus, and r/Snus!

We see a lot of the same questions pop up over and over again here, so this will serve as a good guide for those who are looking for information on snus!

What is the extra lid on top for?

This is called a “catch lid”, and is used to discard of your used portions when you aren’t near a trash can.

How much snus do most people use?

We put that question to a survey, and here are the answers! This should give you an idea of what most snusers would say on this question.

Which side of the lip should I put my snus on?

We put that question to a survey, and here are the answers! This should give you an idea of what most snusers would say on this question.

Camel? Skoal? Is this Swedish Snus?

American “snus” products sold in the US are not the same as Swedish Snus products. These products do not have the same focus on quality that Swedish Snus has, and are much lower in nicotine. The companies that produce these products also do not have the same transparency as makers of Swedish Snus. American “snus” is marketed as a supplement to smoking, whereas Swedish Snus is a replacement.

What Swedish Snus products can I buy locally in the US, and how do I find them?

  1. General Snus (produced by Swedish Match) - General Original, General White, General Mint, General Mini Mint, General Wintergreen. Store Locator: http://www.GeneralSnus.com

Why aren’t more products available locally in the US?

A few reasons:

  1. Cost - to get a product approved by the FDA for domestic sale, there is a big cost and lots of paperwork involved.
  2. Size of market - the US market is very small, snus is less than 10% of total smokeless sales in the US.

Due to size of the market, and the huge cost associated, we do not see new products introduced very often, except those grandfathered in (example: Thunder Xtreme).

I want more variety, where do I get more products?

You can purchase more products online. There's a lot of stores available, but these are the ones our users recommend. These stores are ranked based on polls we did asking what stores snusers prefer to use. You can view the full poll results, here.

Gasp! $30 or more for shipping to the US?

This is due to the PACT Act, which requires stores shipping to the US use a carrier that verifies age and collects a signature. Everyone uses UPS. No way around this.

The best way to buy snus and save money is to buy in bulk. Generally, when you purchase 30 or more cans, with shipping included, your price per can drops lower than what it costs to buy locally.

Why am I getting a shipping delay (US Consumer)?

Some packages experience longer holds for clearance than others. It seems random. But you may get your snus in 2 days, you may get it in 5 days. It also depends on which store you use, as some are faster than others.

I’m not home to get my packages / I don’t want my packages delivered to my house, what can I do?

Have your packages held for delivery at a UPS location near you. You can do this by calling the local hub before delivery. Or, the easiest way, use the UPS app and sign up for my choice, and click change delivery, hold for pickup, and pick a location to pick it up at.

I got a bill from UPS, what do I do?

Most e-stores that ship to the US ship DDP (Delivery & Duty Paid), so contact the e-store and they'll get it taken car of for you.

I'm new to snus, what should I order?

Check out this post, which has a lot of suggestions, sorted by flavor! These were voted on by snusers and these are their suggestions for what people who are new to snus should try!

If you looking for what types of the "main snus brands" people like, check out this thread, which ranks the main portion versions of each product.

How should I store my snus?

Two rules of thumb:

  1. If you’ll use it by the expiration date, refrigerate.
  2. If you won’t use it by the expiration date, freeze it. For long term storage we suggest vacuum sealing.

Once a can is open, don’t take it in and out of cold storage as it can affect the quality.

What are the health effects of snus? Will it cause cancer?

Here’s are various studies on snus and health:

I see some mentions of “Chew Bags” here, what is that? Is that snus?

  • "Chew Bags" / "Chewing Tobacco" or "Nordic Chew" are products that are pasteurized and produced the same way as snus.

  • However, they have two differences which make them technically "chew" products and legal in the EU.

  • Difference 1: The tobacco is cut instead of ground.

  • Difference 2: The portion material is very slightly thicker so you can technically chew them.

  • That being said, most use these like snus, as they are the same thing.

What about Nicotine Pouches, nicopods, or all White products, what is that? Is that snus?

  1. Nicotine Pouches - these are products like Zyn, Skruf Super White, and Lyft which contain plant fiber and nicotine but no tobacco. The can and portions look similar to traditional snus.
  2. White Tobacco / All White - these are products like Epok and G4 which contain “white tobacco”, which is a type of cleansed tobacco. The can and portions look similar to traditional snus.

Are any of these nicotine pouch products sold locally in the US?

In the US, you can buy Dryft, On! Nicotine Pouches and Zyn (by Swedish Match). Zyn has a store locator, here - https://www.zyn.com/us/en/storelocator/
