Hotspot for rural use

Advice

I want to upgrade my temporary internet connection that I use while at our rural cottage (2 macs surfing webpages is the typical load).

I've been using the ZTE MF970 hotspot. It is buggy and it sucks. It constantly reboots itself with only two macs connected.

Looking online, the Nighthawk M1 looks like it would have fit the bill, but it seems to have been discontinued along with its later-model brothers and sisters.

I am wondering if there is a new go-to that would be more reliable or whether to wait for Netgear's 5G model to come out?

p.s. The cottage is in Canada (Quebec near Ottawa), some distance from a tower. I do not see the tower with the naked eye, so probably not line of sight. Currently I'm subscribed to a Rogers data-only plan (6.9 km to the tower, per ertyu.org) but there is a Bell tower closer on the map (5 km) so I could consider changing plans too.

p.p.s. I've looked at some of the pro gear, cradlepoint etc, but it looks like I'd pay through the nose and if possible I would prefer something portable and unlocked.
