If devs put in toggle-sprint I will kiss them on the lips
I have mild carpal tunnel from years of computing and gaming, and having to hold down shift for long stretches of time can be rough.

I’m actually stunned it is still not implemented when it is a basic fucking feature. How long has this game been in early access?
There is an auto walk feature under the game settings but doesn't hold the sprint thus you will have to hold shift. Pressing one button is easier than pressing two.
You sir sound like the perfect person to get a more ergonomic gaming keypad. They also have driver supported macro functions perfect for making toggle sprint key. I use a Razer Tartarus v2 myself but there are others out there from Logitech etc.
Razer Tartarus v2
Looks like my old Belkin Nostromo N52. I bought a couple cause I could never play without anymore.
Razer took over the Belkin range and have made improvements over time. I got the original N50 as I couldn't switch from gaming on my laptop when away then on my desktop when home again. The N50 stopped me having to relearn key placement and is far more comfortable to use.
HA! I also started with the N50. :)
I tried a Razor Orbweaver after a Belkin N52 went bad after ten years or so, and it sucked IMO :(
The thumbpad has no feedback, the buttons were weird with things like double pressing fast, and the software was... well... bad compared to Belkins'. I don't know if the Razer Tartarus v2 made this better, though.
I had the Orbweaver and, like yourself, never gelled with it in regards to the thumbpad. Rest assured the Tartarus v2 is the best of the bunch imho.
Or instead of spending a hundred+ dollars you could download macro software for free that lets you use one of the HUNDRED keys you already have on your keyboard, most of which Squad don't use!
Smh a gaming keypad for SQUAD... This isn't an RTS game.
Says the person who's never used one. You're forgetting he already has an underlying condition from using normal keyboards. The Tarturus v2 is around $75 but there are also cheaper options out there. I use every key of mine in Squad and many other fps games. Whenever Squad has a big update and requires a cache cleared I don't have to reset my keyboard settings as my preferred Tarturus keystroke is set as Squads default.
I would think there should be little scripts or tools you could run in the background that would emulate such behavior, no? Or would that get interpreted as cheating?
some high end gaming keyboards probably have special drivers that let you set this type of stuff up, but I don't have one
You can download autohotkey for free.
A stop gap could be to write an AHK script to do this for you
Wait, is sprinting not a toggle? All this time I thought it was
Nope, you hold shift to sprint.
Theres toggle sprint in the game, you can turn it on in the options.
that's walk, not sprint
I feel your pain, I have somiliar issue. When it is too much for me I just use third party software key macro/binders. This is one of them https://www.hot-keyboard.com/docs4/hotkey_help.htm
that's not a bad workaround, but I'd like my sprint to automatically turn back off if I let go of the move key, ADS, or what have you, similar to how it works in other games
I bet you can do it. Maybe not straightforward but you will find some scripts or third party sf.
Autohotkey or 'scripts' can do just that.
