Your Reslistic Optimus speakers just got a little more valuable....

Been rocking a pair of Optimus-1 for a couple of years, sound pretty good for the size and age. My kids just cranked up my Nikko NR-1019 receiver to the max and pressed play on my tape deck.

Blew one of the bass drivers completely, smells of burning and the coil is dead :( Other drivers don't sound too great either.

So god dammed upset, might be an excuse to get either a pair of Realistic Mach ones, or Pioneer HPM-100. Any suggestions for rocking speakers with tight bass, the speakers I mentioned are real pricey on ebay.

Try some cerwin vegas. I have the at-10's and like em. Shouldnt be too expensive. Also the prices for the mach ones seem inflated on ebay. I think you can get them for half that price if you make an offer to the right person or find on craigslist or facebook.

Yeah you can’t go wrong with Cerwin Vegas. And every one of their drivers is rebuildable. But they have sky rocketed in price the last few years. I want a pair of SE380s so damn bad. I just saw a set of the 2000-15s show up online but the price is outrageous.

Honestly though I wouldn’t say the Optimus 1 was a super awesome speaker. Might have significance to you for a personal reason but there are a ton of speakers from that era that are affordable and sound better. Honestly I’ve had amazing luck just checking FB Marketplace. Nothing will stop your kids from blowing up any speaker at full volume, that’s just gunna go sideways no matter what. I found a set of Polk Monitor 5s for $25 two days ago. I need to glue the grill cloth back down to the frame and buff the wood on the cabinets and you wouldn’t be able to tell them from new.

Checking out some in ebay, they look like what I'm after. It's hard to tell whats all original these days with speakers. One I've seen looks like non original cross overs (no fuse on the back) but I just don't know enough about speakers, cassette and reel decks I'm a lot better with

So at some point Polk swapped out the fuse for a poly switch. And there are 3 different tweeters lol good luck! Edit:technically 7, but the most common one is the sl-2000. Swaps out for the rd-0194. An upgrade to the crossover can be made to run the rd-0198 tweeters, which are supposed to be amazing

You may be able to replace the drivers. I had a tweeter go bad in a 20 year old Paradigm speaker that is no longer supported. I was able to do a google search and find a suitable substitute.
