[Turris] I’m going to listen and educate myself. This is a WE problem. This is about human rights. We need to make the world a better place. JusticeForGeorgeFloyd

Turris and his wife are great people.
I like Turris.. I liked the chemistry he had with Mantha... it be nice see yzerman take that contract and see what else he can get
Say what you will about Turris, but he was the lifeblood of the 2017 Sens. Was he a true #1C, probably not, but he was a true lead by example leader.
When he got traded for Duchene the Sens fell off the cliff. He was the key. I'd love to see Kyle in Detroit, he'd fit in great and help them hit the floor.
Detroit dosnt need help to hit floor.. Holland helped us out with that for another year or two
Mantha
when?
Team Canada at Worlds
This
Turris in Detroit really makes a lot of sense.
Excellent.
I'd love for the "they can't say racism is bad because someone will twist it to mean racism is good or something" crowd to do their best role play and twist this.
Ya what a ridiculous load of shit. I have no idea how people actually believe that's gonna be some huge issue when it's happening to exactly nobody here.
Exactly. Very few will say his message is disingenuous. He (and other players who have spoken out) will hardly be “canceled” for this. Most fans are appreciative of and praising his tweet.
(And this should not be compared with Robin Lehner’s situation, because he wasn’t explicitly talking about racism or Akim Aliu’s article. Very different situations.)
That seems like a misrepresentation of what was being said.
Also there’s only 10 comments in this thread and there’s someone complaining that it’s just PR fluff and he doesn’t actually mean it.
Wasn't talking about this thread, if I was I probably woulda mentioned it.
I know you weren’t, you were trying to make a point that there’s no way positive messages could be misconstrued, criticized using this tweet as an example, when that exactly happened.
Who misconstrued it? Calling it virtue signaling or fluff PR isn't exactly misconstruing the point.

This shit makes my blood boil. Growing up in southern Ontario the only thing that made my friends/peers different was their names.
It's disgusting that this is still an issue.
How come committing a sum of money to the hundreds of workers that now dont have jobs since Target closed all the stores in the area and several of them were burned down?
Or perhaps some money to the small business owners who were struggling already because of covid, and now don't have businesses to reopen because they were burned down.
or to the people who will be laid off because these riots will depress the economies in those communities. Because they burned down all the businesses and no one will want to open new ones for fear of them GETTING FUCKING BURNED DOWN?
Something tells me you're missing the point of all this.
Economy>Lives, obviously.
Chance the Rapper replied to someone trying the same talking point yesterday. "You have an attachment to material things and 'order' that you do not have with black lives." Such an efficient way to put it.
If someone's first thought or statement during this whole thing is about material goods, maybe there is something else that they would prefer not to talk about, either because it makes them uncomfortable or because they genuinely don't care.
Riots aren't a systemic problem (they are the result of one, as MLK said, they're the voice of the unheard).
Racism is a systemic problem.
Guess which one actually needs people to take action and a stand to do something about?
Riots are a systemic problem of the culture in the black community.
I may understand their feelings towards cops. And plenty of peoples have their own unique culture. But the black community does not help the cause by being anti-cop, anti-snitch, anti-law enforcement. It takes both sides to make things better and over the years I dont see one side making an effort at all while I've seen law enforcement, sometimes voluntary sometimes forcibly by the government, try to do a better job within their communities.
Funny, I haven't seen news about black people rioting except for when too many of them have been murdered recently and the perpetrators ignored or even applauded.
There's a cause and effect here. Want to stop the rioting? Stop letting people murder black people with no consequences.
If someone says they are being treated like animals. The solution isn't to start acting like a fucking animal.
I dont know how to be more plain than that.
I see players are finally growing a spine
As long as it isn’t tweet about it today, forget about it tomorrow. I fear these tweets are mostly just lip service.
Baby steps. These are complex issues for some people, and small change is necessary for big change to happen.
Naw. They're normalizing specifically anti-racist discourse. This is good.
But it is exactly that. These tweets are just for brownie points, for the most part. People who actually care are supporting the people of colour around them and working with community groups to ensure this sort of stuff doesn’t continue. People who want attention are giving these vague, pre-prepared statements that say literally nothing. And sadly it’s these people who are being praised for “using their voice”.
The first step to solving a problem is acknowledging it, though
First off, speaking out is really important if you have a platform like Turris does. You're right it probably won't sway most people, but think about those young preds fans (especially being in a southern market) who might be hearing this kind of thing for the first time. This could be a huge first step for a lot of people to actually look into whats going on, and not just information fed to them by the people around them.
The other is this is not some vague pre-prepared thing. He's admitting to his own inadequacies on this topic and is open to learning what he can do, which is more than a lot of politicians on either side are doing.
This tweet shouldn't be the end of things, but it gives us something to hold him to at least.
All of this, Amen.
who gives a fuck if its for brownie points? it was not at all before and if society is clearly leaning toward favoring the person not the cop (FINALLY) then it's clearly safe for those reticent about the topic to speak loud and proud.
this is a fucking problem. why are you vilifying someone for standing against something absolutely evil and wrong? let make it fucking cool to stand against racism and tyranny, because it is. its fucking cool as hell to stand up for your brother with another skin color that gets his teeth knocked in because he's different
what's really bothering me here is the fact that it's "not enough" for you. in my estimation, kyle turris is a very generic hockey bro. do you think he has something else to say other than something cookie cutter? nah. not enough.
The whole “not enough” culture really bothers me. For example, people often see an athlete has donated like 50 grand to a charity and say some shit like “that’s like me donating 20 bucks, where’s my story?”
No, Brad, it’s not the same, because it’s 50 thousand dollars. Don’t get mad at people for doing nothing and then keep complaining when they do something positive. Positive reinforcement is the way to go.
I don't really think that most star level guys like Turris are a problem these days. They're pretty well media trained too and are maybe more professional.
Would be nice for someone from actual Minnesota to say something though, Suter maybe.
Wheeler made a comment showing his support and he's from Minnesota. So there's at least one.
Not really fair to call players out like that, especially a guy like Turris considering what he's' giving to the community in Ottawa.
To clarify: Turris has a spine, other players, what are you waiting for
Agreed. This isn’t political. This is about doing the right thing.
I hope white athletes with a voice continue to speak out about how fucking crazy and wrong this is.
Offering platitudes that 99.9% of people agree with is not being brave. It's just doi g what is trendy.
