What am I looking at here? This is Cat6e cabling.

That’s a POTS line.
What’s a POTS? I was expecting this to be a networking jack. But 3 of the splices are not even hooked up. (New house just moved in so I’m starting to look into a few things)
Plain Old Telephone System
It’s wired for a phone line.
Dam... I kinda of figured that might be the case. Went to plug in a RJ45 tip and it was too big. Looks like I’ll be rewiring my whole house 😆 Thanks for the info!
If it's all cat6, you just got wired internet in every room! Reterminate and add a router
It may not be necessary to do a full rewire. If it's cat6e, just install an rj45 jack, find the other end, and tie it to your switch.
Pots. Blue pair is used for phone specifically.
Blue, orange, green, brown, slate, white, red, black, yellow, violet.
Cat6 is readily available so that’s what they used for the phone lines. I haven’t seen actual phone line in years. Like one post said replace the jacks with RJ45 hardware then connect to a network switch. The you don’t have to run any new wire to put Ethernet in each room.
This is what happens when idiot electricians think they're also cable tv and telco guys.
Let me give you some advice: You electricians know about as much as cable tv and phone as those guys do about power. Stick to what YOU know.
But honestly, it is a phone cable. Blue/BW, are your first pair, Orange/OW are your second pair, etc... Black and yellow are typically used to power the jack.
Wall plug for data
Yeah I know that but I’ve never seen it hooked up like this. Orange, brown and green pairs are all not hooked up.
It’s for phone, remember, electricity doesn’t care what color the wires are
Have we really reached the point where people are old enough to understand Cat6A and recognize 8p8c connectors as Ethernet, but young enough to not recognize a POTS phone jack?
Apparently we've reached the point where CAT6 is so common and cheap that builders pull it for pots lines. What a bonus.
POTS jacks seem to come up on here pretty often, yeah, I know. But yes, the actual cable should work for network too, just with new jacks.
