Belgiums 'finest' i really dont get why theu keep protecting such people. If you do, you are part of the problem.
Downvote me all you want but gaslighting is part of Belgian culture, it absolutely is. Not that it doesn't happen elsewhere, it does but often not in the same degree.
'It's not that bad.' 'You're overreacting. 'Just ignore it, it's just the way they are.' 'Be happy you're employed!'
It's excessive and many times anyone who dares to complain gets blamed for causing problems. I got fired as a 16-year old student from a major retail company for having 'a bad vibe' because I dared to tell my boss a co-worker called me 'dirty choco' "jokingly".
Basically all of the rare national discussions we manage to have on social issues get imported from abroad. Whether be it about racism, police issues or #metoo. We're too risk averse.
Self-criticism is the second most massive taboo in Flanders.
"But the Flemish are always shitting on their country..."
Yeah, but not on themselves.
"Risk averse" is indeed a typical Belgian trait.
What was the company?
I deliberately didn't name them because I don't believe it's corporate policy to handle it the way the shitty manager did back then. I don't see a reason to shame them.
It's been 10 years since.

Police that protect bad apples are bad cops themselves. What a shitshow.
This right here is why all cops are bastards. Even though I’m still glad we’re not at USA levels of bastardness.
I don't feel comfortable with this acab statement, although it's in the line of my ideology in general. A lot of cops are just people thinking they're doing the best they can for their community, but they are human and thus flawed. However, the police should be the best of us, it's not okay to have 'bad apples', it's not okay to look away. There should be waaaay higher standards before you enter the police. a world without a police force that protects the status quo and thus only served the 1%, is an anarchistic utopia right about now, Let's make this a long term mission.
A lot of cops are just people thinking they're doing the best they can for their community, but they are human and thus flawed.
After having spend some time with the police and police officers, I think it's downright impossible to be honestly mistaken about the tolerance for violence, oppression, discrimination, etc. that goes on within the police and the behaviors that result from that.
Maybe individual cops make the internal calculus that their actions benefit the community more than their organization hurts it but that still means either supporting or not actively opposing the parts of the police that very much hurt communities.
It's less catchy to say: "Everyone who willingly puts on a uniform that, on a regular basis, is used to perpetuate both systemic and individual acts of violence and oppression should be considered to, at the very least, to be silently endorsing that violence and oppression even if they are an okay person outside of their role as police," so ACAB works as a shorthand. It's a slogan not a well-written critique of the role the police force plays in our society. Don't expect a slogan to do the work of the theory behind that slogan.
Why do some people still insist on being such utter garbage human beings?
The problem is not "some people are assholes." The problem is that the system is actively propagating and defending a culture that enables people to be assholes to each other.
Jobs which give you tremendous power over other human beings attract the crazy. Crazy people do crazy things, also to their own.
They’re cops...
But why tho
ACAB?
I find it quite funny that they talk about ''rotte appels'' in the articel because the proverb: ''eén rotte appel in de mand, maakt al het gave fruit te schand'' fits perfectly. The police inspector was convicted but his police zone appealed the conviction and gave him back his job.
Edgelord?
Read the article. The issue is systemic. It's inherent to the institution.
Systemic or not, ACAB is an edgelord level statement that is often used to defend a mentality of hatred. It will benefit no one in the long run.
Attacking an institution =/= attacking all cops. It really isn't that hard to focus on the actual issue.
I see ACAB as the folowing: all cops are probably good people up untill the government tells them to attack\thread the people and they will folow those orders without hesitation. Do you trust the guards of a corrupt orginisation? I don't and neither should you

Weird how this just keeps happening, looks like every time we grab a handful from this basket of apples we just happen upon the bad ones, very strange.
My team has no team-building event since last year... I will put this on suggestion list
Een verplichte iq test zou al veel helpen. Er is sowieso een groot risico dat je als politie geweldsgeile lui aantrekt, maar hoe pik je die er tussenuit?
Een verplichte iq test zou al veel helpen.
This sort of thing isn't a result of ignorance of not being smart enough to understand that what they're doing is wrong.
Ge geraakt bij de politie niet meer binnen zonder 3 stages waarvan stage1 een IQ-test is, stage 2 een EQ-test is en stage 3 IDK.
Haha epic
We just went bowling for our team building. I imagine it can't be hard to find sensible activities...
That does seem slightly less controversial, yes.
I don't know man,bowling sucks
Sucks huh? Well shut up then!
HEEEEY COUSSIIIN, YOU WANT TO GO BOOOWLINGGG?
ROMAN!
I never understood teambuilding. Most of the time it is pointless and sometimes even makes relations at work worse.
Especially team building in employee's spare time. If it's so important, they can do it during working hours.
I refuse to go to any work related event that is not properly renumerated. My free time is valuable.
Depends on what you do. Last year, we went on a trip abroad. 90% of the time was team building, 10% was thinking about the future of our scale-up. I loved it. Everybody loved it.
It's only needed to move the "l" in order to go blowing next year... Just FYI.
Didn't know they opened up again? Thanks for the info!
Oh no,that was last year. I don't know if we'll have on this year, with all the 'Rona
Dus jullie zijn vorig jaar ook al wezen bowlen en willen wel 'ns wat anders?

Does it belong under sportclubs?
Yes, at least in the Netherlands it does.
I would personally not object to parenclub teambuilding.
