the memo is clearly out to not say police in any PR statements

The islanders mentioned them in their’s didn’t they? Or was that another team and I mixed them up.

they mentioned it in the exact wrong way, by thanking them

most statements have been generically criticizing “racism” but not police brutality, which is what sparked these protests. toronto went the farthest by saying that Floyd was murdered, but that’s still no mention of by who

Yeah, the Islanders statement was a solid yikes. Also not surprised the NHL is dancing around the issue. Seems pretty on brand for them.

This corporation’s heart is broken. Oh no!

This is a cynical statement for me to start off with. But I really wish all these NHL teams posted links to good charities, volunteer opportunities, or educational resources that help combat our inequalities. Rather than just a cookie cutter statement.

Yeah I agree. The only statement I’ve seen that posted a link to donate was Slavin’s. There are so many resources out there to educate people on what they can do, where they can donate. I guess I’m naive in expecting organizations to do more than just the cookie cutter statement.

I don't know who else has, but Duclair included a hub with links to multiple donation funds and a ton of resources with his tweet and Foligno boosted it when he posted his statement.

I hope it's more than just those three though.

the issue is that there aren’t charities, volunteer opportunities or educational resources in this situation

this is about police violence against black people. the only people who can change that are police

Look up Campaign Zero. I think that’s a good example

Here are two suggested by the Minnesota Freedom Fund (who you can also donate to).

they certainly are advocating for things that i agree with, but at the end of the day they’re doing the same thing—asking police to stop killing black people. it comes back to the same people that need to change, and i’m cynical of what advantage there is to that as opposed to the protesting. they do do this full time which is an advantage, but i’d rather support the protesters directly right now.

i’ve donated to a bail fund, but i do understand that corporations can’t really advocate for that.

I mean, obviously it’s better than nothing, but a lot of these statements just seem so cookie cutter and token. I hope they show proof and evidence of the ways in which they plan on helping and supporting black communities

No mention of police, no Black Lives Matter... guess the stragglers have their formula 😕

Did not see that - still disappointing to see no mention of police but unfortunately it seems thatsypar for the course with teams rn. Glad to see them put black lives matter there tho.
