Guttag: Facebook Confirms Experimenting with LBS for AR

Doug Lanman, a director at Facebook Reality Labs, gave an interesting presentation at Photonics West AR/VR/MR 2020 conference (unfortunately, a video of his presentation is not available). He mentioned Facebook R&D experimenting with an eye-tracking steering mirror combined with a laser scanning projector to keep the image projecting through the pupil.

Of course, KG then goes on to suggest that FB will try anything and stated his belief that FB "is putting its big money on MicroLEDs". However, that might not be bad at all for MVIS, given Facebook's interest in combining microLEDs with MEMS scanning mirrors for AR.
