Good to see the team stand by their captain who had a great message.
I did find it funny they mentioned his handle @BiggieFunke. Would have been hilarious if it was something like @fartlicker69.
Reminds me of that professor I had who talked about the human/personal side of computer science. Nice guy, but very much a boring, run of the mill, straight to the point old guy that you'd imagine being a prof. At one point, he was talking about job hunting and how employers throw out your resume or how your resume is behind the 8 ball if your email address does not look professional.
He just flat out used "[email protected]" as an example and I don't know why that was so fucking funny. Maybe it was the shock hearing it coming out of his mouth of all people or something, but it took everything I had not to die laughing.
One time I was at a research group meeting and a PhD student had his personal laptop hooked up to a projector to give a tutorial on how to use a certain piece of software. All was well until he got a text from his fiance, whose notification popped up entitled "Shelly 😍 Sex Kitten 😍"
Only one other person and I saw it and we did everything we could not to burst out laughing
definitely made me laugh a bit seeing it in the middle there
Could be better, could be worse. I was hoping for a direct use of the phrase Black Lives Matter and it sort of reads as "what he said" following what Wheeler said. Which I do understand letting Wheeler speak to the media - almost 45 minutes on this topic alone - as he was very well spoken and honest. Ultimately though, actions speak louder than words and this reads as more of a placation. But as a member of the community, I know of True North's work and commitment to the Indigenous community and hope it extends to that of the black community and working to elevate black voices and eradicating racism in our communities.
edit: actions speak louder than words here are ways you can support the movement: https://blacklivesmatters.carrd.co/#
It seems like they are leaning on Wheeler to be their spokesman here. Not the worst choice, though a stronger statement from them would be nice.
That's solid. Also amazed that a hockey player criticized Trump to the media, even just by saying the actions were 'unfortunate.'
Wheeler has publicly tweeted against Trump at various times during his Presidency, so it's not that surprising he's still doing it now that it's even more necessary.
That's so cool, thank you!
If this was a meal, itd be white bread with a cup of water on the side for dipping.
The team waited until after Blake Wheeler did a press conference about this this morning. It’s a pretty copy and paste statement but I do like how they went about it, standing by Wheeler who has been very vulnerable and open
He actually said this morning he showed his 7 year old what happened to George Floyd, and him and his wife are trying to explain to him why it happened.
I guess his 7 year old kept asking “why won’t they let go of his neck?” ☹️

Oh geezus that’s rough 💔
Totally, it was so sad to read. But at the same time, awesome to see that they are so willing to be real and honest with their kids and not shy away from it
Oh for sure, just takes my breath away kids having to know how horrible the world is. They sound like wonderful parents though, that kid will grow up well!
Yeah, not sure how I feel about it. The fact they had to wait until their captain spoke out before finally, days later, saying anything... On one hand, better late than never? But the more time goes on, the more I don't trust the sincerity, especially if comes from an organization/company.
The alternative is companies speaking out on political issues more off the cuff and I’m not sure that would turn out well at all.
Yeah I get that part, too. Although I kind of feel like this is an issue you can't sit around and wait to be "one of the followers." You have to lead to truly make it seem authentic.
I’m not sure I want the multinational companies that are selling me things to be depended on as the leaders for social justice. I am totally cool with them following the general public and legislators in that regard.
