Wealthsimple - linking bank account?

Just set up Wealthsimple trading account. In order to link funds from my bank account to the Wealthsimple platform, it is asking me to sign into my online banking platform through the Wealthsimple app. Is this safe to do? Just want to know if everyone does this?

There seems to be another way to do add funds, by manually entering your account information and providing proof of the account (eg: picture of bank statement). Is this way better? Do they have to approve it manually? If so how long does that take?

I know this kinda sounds like a dumb question, I’m just new to the platform and have no clue what to expect. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated!
