PSA/Reminder: Just got a ticket for Expired registry
Just got off the phone with my spouse, and he got a ticket for having an expired vehicle registration (May 31). When running errands last month, I saw a note posted on a closed registry that licenses and registrations that expired during the lock down were automatically extended by a month or so (Can't remember the exact timeline) but that is no longer the case per the Government of Alberta website:https://www.alberta.ca/vehicle-registration-expiry-date-chart.aspx
"Alberta driver’s licences, vehicle registrations, other permits and certificates that expired prior to May 15, 2020 must now be renewed."
Per the above statement, he's going to fight the ticket and hopefully get it waived, but if you get pulled over and your registration/license expires on May 30, 2020, you may be able to talk your way out of a ticket! (My spouse didn't know about the May 15 "deadline" when he was pulled over so he didn't try to negotiate.)
This is NOT an attempt to bad mouth the Calgary police; apparently the officer was very polite and respectful, even if he potentially made an error. It does suck that he has to go fight the ticket, but t'is life.
