I want to understand why so many people prefer Aang instead of Korra

So I was playing with a friend and ATLA conversation came up, he told me he hasn't watched the show so in that exact moment I close the game and told him we need to watch it in that exact moment, so we did.

We watched the original series and then went to watch Korra, I haven't seen both series in a long time and before I did a rewatch I preffered Aang, but why was that? I just finished the third season and wow... I cried like a baby, those last episodes were just so intense and I felt hy heart was going to burst and in that moment my friend told me, damn this series is just so much better and it got me thinking yeah I really didn't felt this at all during Aang, what is happening? I really enjoy Korra more!
