Sword shrine thingy

Hey guys I just bought terraria for my switch and I’m having a lot of fun but I wanted a stronger weapon so I googled swords and I found the enchanted sword. I can’t find a shrine and I have a hard time because of the corruption and the eater of souls which keeping overwhelming me. Is there something I’m doing wrong is there another weapon I could get. Am I just not equipped to make it that far? I have a lead sword and a mix of armor.
