Anybody ever Accidentally muck the winning hand at showdown?

Happened to me a few months back and it still makes me cringe.

Can’t even remember exactly what my hand was, but it was definitely a big-blind special. Think it was like 4-8o or something. 1/1 NL, $300 behind. V has about $200.

Anyway, UTG flats, everyone else folds. I flop bottom two. J-8-4 rainbow or something like that.

I bet small, get min-raised.

Turn is an A.

I check, V bets like $10. I call. River is ... I can’t remember. Not a broadway cars and doesn’t complete a strait or flush.

I check. V tanks for a minute and bets $100 into like a $30 pot. Looks like a really bad bluff attempt to me, so I make the call. He shows, and I swear I think he shows J-8. I instamuck.

Only at that point do I realize he’s actually got J-3, for one pair no kicker.

Ouch.
