Stop Counter Surfing?

Does anyone have any tips besides shoving food away? He is always trying to counter surf and it’s annoying having to remember that every open or even closed container needs to be so far away so he doesn’t grab it. any tips would be appreciated, sending the dog to three week board and train because we feel so helpless.
