New hero paywall?

Hey y’all, I play this game on and off but I’ve noticed a few times with certain heroes being released that they were locked behind a paywall for the first two weeks. My question is, is there any word on this coming season’s hero undergoing the same treatment? Has there been exceptions? Is the season of Hope over? Is it really the year of reckoning on our wallets?
