A story about the American midwest and a harmonica obessed Swede
I remember reading this one story, i think it may have been part of a collection. Anyhow its about a farmer who has a strange man rock up to his door asking for work, after some negotiation he hires the man and finds out he's a Swede and comments on how strange it is for a man like him to be in this part of the world.
The Swede turns out to be a ridiculously efficient worker and the farmer feels obligated to progressively raise his pay.
One day a man claiming to be the sheriff or a state ranger or some other law enforcement type comes to the farm and askes the farmer to hand over the Swede whose wanted for murder after someone messed with his collection of harmonicas, earlier one of the farmers sons does something similar and the Swede whoops him.
The farmer refuses to hand over the man whose been only a helpful farmhand for the entire time he's known them to a ranger whose been disrespectful to the farmer the entire time though thier interaction and it ends a shootout, I dont remember what happens to the Swede but I think the farmer was killed or charged with incompliance with the ranger's investigation and loses everything.
