Don’t listen to ghosts
(It’s my first attempt at a story so criticism is welcome!) “Don’t listen to them” I had begged Sammy, the kid who me and the other ghosts are ‘haunting’ currently “They want you dead Sammy do you understand?” I pleaded to him as all the others slept “Please Sammy, don’t listen to ghosts” I had been stuck like this for awhile, trapped watching a child, always a new child but always the same ghosts.
There was Harry, a bored seeming ghost who always ignored the kids until he saw an opportunity to have the kid do something horrific to themselves
Michael has more of a father figure to the kids, always happy to talk to them, still he always wanted to see them harm themselves
Mary was one of the nicer ones, she often spoke to me and tried to calm me down after they succeeded with their goals, though it wasn’t much help considering she always helped push the kids
Then there was me, I’m a ghost too if you couldn’t tell but I don’t understand, we always get a new kid, I’ve tried everything to help them! I’ve tried helping them with school work, telling them how to deal with bullies and helped them sort out their home lives! Yet it’s never enough, every single time the kid listens to the others and kills themselves.
I tried to understand why but I could never see a reason, this time will be different though, Sammy will survive and I’ll make sure of it.
I was so happy with him when he refused to cross the train track after Harry had encouraged him, he hadn’t seen that the track was broken, he would have easily gotten his foot stuck and ran over but he just said “don’t listen to ghosts”
Michael had tried to get him to quickly run across the road but he refused,he hadn’t noticed the pebble and would have tripped then been hit by a car if he’d listened, he just said “don’t listen to ghosts”
I don’t think I could have smiled wider then when he refused to dive into the calm looking ocean after Mary had tried to reason with him that it could be fun, he couldn’t see that it was shallow and he would have died from the fall, he only repeated “don’t listen to ghosts”
I had thought I’d done good, I stopped a kids death! What could possibly be better then that?! I had thought I’d done good...
...I had thought I’d done good...
It was a new kid now, this one had been Sammy’s crush, oh how he had fallen for her and he just couldn’t handle the rejection
The next one was his bully, they were horrible to him, he’d just wanted them to leave yet they refused so now a life is lost
The following was Sammy’s older sister, she was always bringing boys back and they made such a mess and they were always so loud so now he didn’t have to deal with them anymore
I had begged him to stop, none of them needed to die, they had so much ahead of them! Yet I was powerless to stop him. He just looked at me as he stood over his sleeping parents with his trusty knife
“Please Sammy, don’t do this” I pleaded one more time but he just gave me that familiar sickening grin...
...“Don’t listen to ghosts”
