Family member experiencing complications from procedure, finds no record of it.

A female family member had an IUD put in a few months ago, and she is experiencing a lot of problems from it. After being in pain and still having periods for a while, she finally decided to go get it checked out today. Her normal doctor didn’t deem it an emergency, so she had to see a different provider. During the appointment, the doctor found that there was no record of the IUD being put in.

What can we do at this point? The IUD has moved and she may even have to get it removed surgically. In a funny little twist of fate, I actually ended up getting a job at a hospital owned by the same company that put in her IUD about a month ago. What legal action can we pursue against this company for this oversight? Is it a conflict of interest for me to help my family member? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. For context, we live in Utah, United States.
