That’s okay, my pussy is a far better creature than you.
TL;DR: [Pre-Dating Hell] Person I’ve been talking with online cannot stifle herself after insulting me over the revelation that I own a cat. Fails to understand her words and thoughts are disorganized and her behavior unstable. Fails to understand this is repulsive behavior and would drive sensible people far far away.
I’ve been doing the online dating thing. I’ve met a couple vaguely-interesting people, and many very broken people. Mixed-bag microcosm of the society, you see.
June (not her real name) and I had been messaging for about six days. She seemed of normal intellect and interesting-enough from what I could glean. I said at one point that I was looking to learn piano because I enjoy discipline and challenges, and it would allow me to finally perform some of the funny songs I have floating around in my mind.
I revealed that one such song was something to the effect of, “My Cat Loves Her Belly Rubbed (But Then She Bites Me).” Funny, no big deal, good for a laugh.
She then writes back a couple days later with venom. Men with cats are avoidant and think emotional unavailability is attractive. (Funny aside: my requirements in any relationship are “reasonable” and “not terrified of intimacy.” And that’s about it.) She goes on a whole scree about how thanks for not saying we’ve had a connection when we had a conversation, and that she’d think about meeting up for coffee (I’d suggested it in future as it seemed like there was interesting conversation here).
It all comes off as pretty obvious projection. But now I have a dilemma. Do I seize the teachable moment and tell her that I’m no longer interested in the least and she should work on herself and introspect a bit, or do I block and move on?
I decided to wait one week and then see how I felt.
She couldn’t even wait that long. The next message came some days later effectively asking if she lost me by insulting my cat or by not jumping at the opportunity to meet for coffee.
She is actually blind to the fact that, no, these things pale next to the fact that I will never connect myself to an irrational train-wreck of a person who cannot even introspect.
I am perplexed here. Funny enough that she happened to suggest I was one of the things I’m probably the least, funny she would project so hard, funny that she wouldn’t be able to stifle herself for more than a few days. She seems to just be feeding on the notion that she “made some guy feel bad,” when all she did was be really confusing and make me thank my lucky stars that I blundered into her revealing herself like this ... with a joke-song about a cat ... and did so quickly.
That’s the latest installment in my series: “woooooowww... people are messed up.” Hope you enjoyed it.
Additional information, as it may come up: my cat is a pretty good creature. I’ve known and cared for her for all her life. She’s now fifteen and still plays and likes to flop down on top of me when I watch videos. I’ve owned a dog, and will likely get another dog after this cat. She’s a good animal and a far more predictable creature than many creatures in the online dating circuit.
