Should I change careers to one I'm passionate about or stay where I am and move up and make use of my degree?
Hello!
I've been working with adults with developmental disabilities as direct support for 2 years now, starting off as per diem, full time since August 2019, and now have graduated college with a BA in psychology. I love my job and the people but what I really want to do is work with animals.
With my degree, opportunities in the company and the field have grown and I could potentially work my way up to more clinical and better paying positions. However, my goals for my career are really more animal centric. Preferably in a zoo or center focused on animal conservation working on animal training and care. I am going to be working toward my vet tech certification starting this fall as well.
Tomorrow I have a job interview for a kennel assistant postion at an animal hospital. Based on job duties this is mostly a lateral move to a different field but I lose the potential and opportunity I have grown at my current company. I would love to work with animals but also feel kind of guilty for not making use of my degree right away, but due to COVID I've been switched to overnights and have been really unhappy. That makes me feel like nows the time to try my passion.
Would this move be a waste or should I go for it if offered?
Also any advise for what to wear to a outdoor interview on a hot day as a male with tattoos and scars on their arms would be appreciated.
