Grinding / whirring noise from corsair water cooler?

Troubleshooting

Hi guys, I thought I'd try my luck here because I'm getting pretty desperate. I posted in tech support, full disclosure. Hopefully someone can assist me in my journey. I'm using Corsair H100i GTX Hydro Series High Performance CPU Cooler for the cpu and couple of corsair fans for the front and back of the computer. The fans have gotten quite noisy over the years so I looked on youtube and decided to lubricate the fans with some machine oil. Turns out these fans don't have the little holes under the sticker so that was that. There are two fans under the water cooling radiator that sits on the top vents, so I unscrewed those and cleaned them as well. While this was being done, I was gentle with the unit obviously, but it may have affected the bond with the cpu, although it was never touched or moved (the sheer weight of the radiator I guess).

So I turned it on and it was fine for a while (I got into the OS), but woukd always shut off about a minute or two after boot. All the fans were in working order, so I figured this is probably an overheating issue and the computer is shutting down to protect itself. But then I turned it on again to see which fans need replacing etc, and all of a sudden there is this really lound grinding/whirring noise from the corsair unit part that touches the cpu. I've recorded this and uploaded the sound. As far as I can see there's Jo fans hitting anything and it looks like it's something from the main corsair block that sits on top of the CPU. Could it be a water whirring issue?

I have bought some thermal paste to reseal the corsair to the cpu becasue I figured playing with it may have accidentally affected the bond between the heat conductor thing and the cpu. But could what I have described cause this sound?
