What the hell is wrong with people in Rec?

The Rec

2 full quarters, I haven't been passed the ball once. Playmaking shot creator. I have 6 points on 3/4 shooting from the 4 passes I recovered that these guys have tried to force into traffic instead of passing to me, wide open on the perimeter as a 89 3 pointer with 22 shooting badges. The 4 have 13 turnovers at half, all from passing into traffic. Down 8 and they're throwing the game away. My defender hasn't bothered to stand within 10 feet of me since he figured out their game plan in the 1st quarter. How fucking selfish are the players of this game and what's the point of ever running a guard of any build with this toxic playerbase? At least when I don't get passed to on my center I can rebound the ball.

How can you act like this and expect the person you're icing out to play defense or give a fuck about the outcome of the game? If you want to play 4v5 on offense then you can play 4v5 on defense.

This is one of the only games i've ever played that is unplayable if you queue alone. I don't have any friends who play 2k and it's made half of Mycareer untouchable, the half you need to level past 95. What the fuck.

4 assholes griefing me and yet I'm the one who would get banned if I don't let them treat me like shit for a full 20 minutes.

I have seen sooooo many complaints about the rec on this sub reddit and everything you're saying is 100% correct. But it's a case of just accepting that 2K has a pretty toxic player base with a lot of these toxic players having no basketball IQ. Hopefully in 2K21 they can set up the rec to encourage good team play and discourage bad team play but as I said, we can only hope.

They just need decent ranking and matchmaking to filter these terrible players, people who actually want to win, and teams. Just put all of these brain dead players together, so they can trash it up themselves and spare the rest of the community their BS.

cringycalf:bronze:•

But then the whole community would go in uproar and actually make the try hards have to try when playing against their own shitty unorthodox lineups and bad bball iq plays that wouldn’t work In irl situations. And the youtubers would complain aswell because they would realize that they’re pretty trash at the game because they realize that they’re play style is invalid when actually playing against good people.

I want this to happen but 2k wouldn’t have the guts to deal with it because they know their shitty toxic community would complain for months over 1 game mode.

Lol bro they know this they’re just not going to add match making because people will feel less pressure to pay to win

Shit sucks man. I just started playing online after getting my character to 90. I’m a pro 2 so it’s impossible to get a game in the park so rec is my only option. So many braindead players suck the fun out of the game

I think they need to punish bad plays more and grade you out faster. People driving into 3-4 people in the paint and missing the shot should take a larger hit to your teammate grade. Same with people taking heavily contested shots. You can take a couple and be fine but if that's all you do and you're not making it you should get graded out. If you get graded out but you were trying to be a team player that sucks but that would also create a more serious environment if you know that you'll get booted if you play like ass and don't pass to your open teammates

This ^^^^ I just played a game where the C a 12 yr old child drive into traffic ... Who also was playing with his friend who inbounded the ball to him everytime. He would trot up the court like a isn't ouf either attempt a layup at the free throw over the whole team or drive and run into a defender turnover. I'm a 92 scoring machine and barley play online because I can't shoot effectively due to not everrrrrrrr getting the ball to gauge shots. Yeah I'll miss a few shots due to trying to adjust to latency and the difference in shot from career but if you play real basketball the game is so much more fun and easier. People just don't know how to play ball. Anyway anyone wanna ever play and you have any common sense msg me your game tag on reddit and we'll run it.

TLDR: rec with randoms stinks. 2k should incentivize ball movement more

Rec with randoms is a lost cause . You’ll be happier in a group. This has been an issue for a long time . If you run with people who are playing together, often immature players will prioritize getting their friends the ball over a stranger, even if that means breaking the offense or simply making the wrong play

This is a human nature issue. Often there is a group dynamic where they are bickering at eachother to pass eachother the ball and this affects their judgement and play.

The game doesn’t adequately reward ball movement (barely any takeover bonus or grade bonus for most players for assists) and this compounds the problem.

A selfish player has no incentive to pass, and incomplete groups who pick up individual randoms, often pressure eachother to freeze out the random in hopes random will just quit and leave a bot to finish the game

2k could address the problem by somehow incentivizing ball movement more (much more teammate grade bonus or significant takeover boost for assists)

I think also re-introducing the “hold ball too long” penalty might be the move, but I would err toward positive reinforcement of ball movement over punishment for holding the ball

PENIS__FINGERS:warning: :xbl: B1•

Hold ball too long still exists, even in rec fwiw.

83bpm:bronze:•

It used to be much more punitive tho, maybe too much so, but where it’s at right now it’s a non factor

2
oxboy101:bronze:•

I’ve recently been having more fun with randoms as the people I play with are fairly toxic and I know I’m towards the worse when I play with them

I have this problem with the big my friends run with. One time he literally bitched that I had two rebounds while he had 20 something.

I prefer a positive punishment where you can’t play rec for the day if you shot bad shots, passed bad passes, and just didn’t bother defending player. I also would like a system where Artificial intelligence can rate a player on defense and offense out 10 for each side or something measured by the game and not by team mates because of how toxic people are on this game and would do more harm than it would do good. Maybe like if they are rated a 7 on defense with a pg build on their offensive threat that means they’re able to keep up and defend against 2-way slash plays and for offense if they get rated a 9 it means they’re able to create space, shot create, score open 3’s, and pass lobs. And a 10 would mean they are able to score at will when the ball is in there hands by means of anyway and get an assist 90% of the time whenever they pass it.

I just want a system where where can get a Per possession stat in the game where we can see if they actually do move the ball pretty well within that possession causing the PGS team to score or him actually scoring within that possession. Like I want to see what is the Possession percentage for him to actually score than for him to make some 3 or a layup with that possession and how long it takes for them to score aswell. because I’ve seen what people are able to do in squads and what others are able to do with randoms. Aswell I would prefer if we can get a win percentage based on squads and the other on solo(pickup) status. Because that would be better than the current system we have rn where its just literally no context of how these people actually get win %.

I currently don’t like the win% system because some people literally run unorthodox schemes on this game and cause me to lose because they get mad I’m not running they’re scheme and actually move the ball. Aswell I want more implemented on stats and actually get more than a letter grade score. I would prefer a scale made by 2k where some AI determines how versatile your build is per possession instead of per game. I would also like some for of positive punishment because I’m pretty certain that any form of reinforcement wouldn’t help because this community is pretty brain dead and toxic, it just wouldn’t help because I’ve seen this community get more than what they asked for and still complain.

83bpm:bronze:•

I think getting a strong takeover boost for making an assist would be motivation to move the ball more. If u know a couple assists could get you a takeover, if think people would be more inclined to chase the takeover that way

And if teammate grades better represented actual iq it would help with initial matchmaking ( which we have to admit they have improved upon marginally this year )

A couple YouTubers make videos about how OP the boost from assists is and all of a sudden everyone wants to move the ball

I’m elite 2 and take new builds to random rec to work on badges. I played a game today where I touched the ball 4 times the entire game. 3 of those touches were passed to wide open shooting builds only to have them brick the shots. I didn’t get one shot the whole game. Playing at power forward on a sf slashing playmaker.

None of the other players were over ss1. We lost by 30. The 3 guards went something like 9/35 between them. 🤦‍♂️

H1tMan-Doz13r:bronze:•

I have a 97 stretch four that touched the ball two times, after that I said never again lol

Nah bro, I understand. I get if i’m taking dumb shots, or missing, but my fg is 80%! I’m down to run rec whenever if you’re on xbox, sorry for this man.

6
oxboy101:bronze:•

I don’t mind if someone’s fg% is high unless you’re cherry picking and not playing any defence

ImRightUrWrongDuh:warning: B3•

Yk what fg is right

5
oxboy101:bronze:•

Personally I say 50% or higher is a good game but 70%+ is a great game

7
dreitheway:bronze:•

rec is the most cancerous, most toxic fucking game mode there is in 2k at this point in time. i used to play rec to pass the time but i was literally just triggering myself while sitting wide open in the corner with 84 3PT and 21 shooting badges and not getting passed the ball once. in my opinion playmakers and offensive threats are the worst in this game mode cuz they think that they can make 100% in 5v1 traffic. why can't this game have a fanbase who actually understand how to play basketball

6
Vivid361:ruby:•

Honestly, most of the problem would be fixed by displaying avg team mate grade in the lobby while your waiting. (Mine is A btw).

ShowBobsPlzz:bronze: :xbl:•

Hard to get a high grade playing with trash players who dont pass and miss shots when you pass to them

1
HellstarXIII:bronze: :xbl:•

I've had so many different stat lines based off the team I'm with.

I can go from a 47 point game to a 14 point game to game where I'm leading in rebounds... The difference is when they pass IF they do. People throwing me the ball when I'm in the middle of trying to get open again after driving the lane straight to the basket for the 3x in a row on that possession alone.

I find its the somewhat decent guys that focus on defense first that make the best teammates in Rec. Don't need great players just people who cover their man or zone, or can switch match ups if their outmatched..from there get open, pass to the open guy. Ws.

3
Vivid361:ruby:•

The really sad part about this culture is, if everyone just plays their role, you usually end up winning!

Bigs rebound and outlet. Clean up missed shots on offence when they can and either put it back if they have good position or kick it out.

Wings look to get open off ball and be ready for when the defence collapses on a slasher.

Point guards, by all means look to score. That opens up the game for the rest of the team. When the defence starts helping, pass the damn ball.

Run the fast break! Seriously, if you aren’t scoring 20+ off breaks, chances are you aren’t winning. Nothing worse than the big rebounding the ball and then trying to dribble to half way or full court. Barely ever works.

Most importantly, more than anything else, play solid defence!

That’s all I got.

Kiriranchelo:bronze:•

Thats 99% of the games in REC, they think they play alone and brick every shot

2
oxboy101:bronze:•

This is very similar to a game I had last night where the sg (his mate would pass to him instead of me who was the pg) they finished with a combined fg of 3-21 with 10 points and 15 turnovers we only won due to the sf, the c and I playing lockdown defence and the sf and I were clutch with our shots (we finished with a combined fg of 24-28) I got so furious with them that when I went into game chat they shut up and left after we won a narrow game and shut them out for the entire 2nd half

I feel your pain man! If 2K just decided to make a 4’s court that’s permanent, that might help reduce the toxicity in the rec. I know me and my buddies usually do 2v2 with 2 randoms in our teams so we can play park with all 4 because we have a few who don’t like rec (me included). But that’s why rec is so toxic. You either play a game with 4 of them being in a party and trying to stack their stats, or play a game with a 72 OVR team. There’s no in between when you’re a solo player. So it’s not necessarily the fault of the players who play rec, but fault of the developers for completely weeding out the idea that some people have more than 2 other friends that play their game and the only way to be inclusive is play rec.

I feel you. I'm looking to get with a squad to run in rec fair play and PASSING. Tag: Flax0n Wax0n

crash218579:bronze:•

I'm my experience, I've found the most toxicity in the 93+ rec. Almost every game there's that one guy that thinks he can outscore the other team by himself if he just shoots enough, and trash talks his team all game.

By contrast, i see a lot less of that in the 92 and below rec. Players generally are more team and win oriented. That's why i keep a high overall center to run pro am and park with my friends, and a 92 overall center when i feel like running rec.

1
Mackmurphy25:bronze: :psn:•

The problem is it takes like 8 TOs before someone grades out , and if they accidentally end up with an assist your dealing with them for the rest of the game. The teammate grade system is horrid.

1
jrrichards42:bronze:•

If you miss 10 shots in a row, you should be put in the corner for time out. I see guys with an A grade and go 2/18. Definitely needs to be fixed.

3
Mackmurphy25:bronze: :psn:•

Exactly. And everyone seems to want to force feed that guy every time lol

3
MitchyTruMoney:bronze:•

When I played rec and was passed the ball I would first look for an open shot, if no then pass to an open man, if no then try to create, and drive or dish it off. People that freaking dribble and dribble and dribble throw off everyone's rhythm and people start forcing everything. Which is why I completely stopped playing rec.
