I will, always and forever, upvote Lawsons.

Eat an egg sandwich and drink two Strong Zeroes for me.

2 x wood ear mushroom and chili oil onigiri

2 x Strong Zero (lemon or mango)

My go-to.

I really miss the BBQ beef onigiri.

How did you manage that with current restrictions it is even difficult for citizens?

18
yukiji_0wO•

If you have Japanese passport/nationality, you are still allowed into the country with 2 weeks of quarantine ofc.

Time for a strawberry sandwich from Lawson's and an early night.

What country did you come in from? Just curious what entry is like currently.

What is it with an egg sandwich and a strong zero thing? Multiple people have commented close to the exact same thing!

Strong zero + any quick eat combini food. Strong zero is the key

You have to experience it for yourself to truly understand. The Japanese egg sandwiches are made with premium eggs with chickens that eat a proper diet (their egg yolk is dark orange, while American eggs are yellow). Also the mayo used is superior as well, similar to Kewpie mayo. And the white bread it comes on is always spongy and perfect, not misshapen or wet from grease like American fast food sandwiches. These sandwiches cost around $2.00ea.

Strong Zeroes are basically high-balls (flavored soda water with alcohol) at 9% abv added. They come in all sorts of flavors. Even though it is technically a malt beverage, it tastes amazing and not like the malt beverage swill we have here. These cost around $2.00ea.

You can eat delicious snacks and get completely shitfaced for around $10 in Japan easily because Combini are pretty much on every city block in Tokyo.

You ever get a $4 sandwich from Wawa my dude? I'm not saying it's great but an egg sandwich on sugar bread...

adam_364•

The yolks are orange because they force feed the chicken all kinds of shit to make them that color. Almost all eggs in Japan come from batteries where chicken barely have any space to move and never see the sunlight (a practice that has been banned in Europe for a while for example and is also banned in some US states). Now that all doesn't matter because people cannot tell the taste difference between free range and battery eggs, however pretending Japanese eggs are in any way superior is just plain wrong.

Why do you hate yourself?

Damn! I went to Osaka for a trip and never heard of such a thing! I need to keep my ears open more.

Beautifully explained

The egg sandwich tastes like an egg sandwich in shokupan, which is basically Wonder bread. People who think it's some heavenly treat probably can't make toast at home.

Strong Zero is a high ABV alcopop in a wide variety of flavours. They claim to freeze the fruits to -196C to extract the flavour. People like them because they are cheap, sweet, and strong - standard is 9% ABV, but sometimes there are 12% varieties.

Look, I can make chicken at home as well. I still think Famichiki is delicious and will often grab one or two. Same with the konbini sandwiches.

Might be relatively simple when you drill down into what it actually contains, but good ingredients and attention to detail + flavours elevates these things to fan favourite status.

When my brother went to Hawaii, the first pic he sent me was not of a palm tree or a hula girl, but of a Lawson combini. Our parents could not understand why I was delighted by this humble photo.

  1. congrats. I’m happy for you. SO happy. That’s awesome.

  2. fuck you; I won’t get to go back until next year at best. sigh

In case anybody’s curious, #2 isn’t really meant to be aimed at OP, just my own bitterness about the situation.

How often do you go to Japan that it feels like home to you? Also how did you get around the travel ban?

1
HayaiUntenOP•

Every so. I think that my family have some connections, so I can go freely to Japan.

1
HayaiUntenOP•

Are you interested in career teaching English??

1
[deleted]•

Mm no not at this time. Doesn't pay enough and companies like JET treat their teachers very poorly.

I may work from my company's office in Tokyo some day though.

Then later becoming a recruiter. Getting fired from that job and at 30, moving back to the family home with ZERO skills.

Or

Getting married to a Hanako, divorcing at 40 and positing video of his/her life in Saitama.

Can’t wait! 🍿
