Moving to the city and am having trouble finding a place that allows month-to-month leasing

I'm moving to the SF at the start of June and want to rent a place through the end of the year. Ideally, I'd like to live in Inner Richmond or Lower Pac Heights for the quick access it offers to the 1 (I need to travel over the GG for work). Does anybody have any ideas how to go about this? Craigslist tends to list only one year lease properties and the only month-to-month rental company I've found doesn't have any inventory in my preferred location or price range.

EDIT: Additional Information:

• I've never lived alone before and have always wanted to try it. So, for now, I'm trying to find a place for myself.
• My max. rent is $2k, although I'd like to be muuuuch closer to $1,500
