I accidentally broke a store window while skating

Juvenile and Youth Law

I was skating with my buddy the other day and was skating down a 4 stair. There was a store with a glass window right next to it. I went down the stair set fell then my board flew into the window and broke it. It was a fight or flight moment so I took my board and we ran. It was a smaller glass pane but still. We ran to his moms car and waited it out until we left. What’s gonna happen ?

Well if they had cameras they're probably gonna try to find out who you are and try to charge you for it most likely but it really depends because sometimes investigations fall through

Do you think they can find the license plate of the car we were in and find where they live?

If they have cameras yes they can. Do the right thing here or expect far worse consequences if you are caught.

More than likely yes depending on the amount of cameras there was around. Do you know if skateboarding is prohibited where you were skating?

What is the right thing to do? If it were my son, I would go back with him and talk to the owner. Tell him you ran because you were scared and didn't know what to do. It will be more admirable that you returned.

The store most certainly has insurance that will cover such things. It was an accident. Stuff happens. Life throws many things like this. Better to face them head on.

Perhaps if you (or an intermediary) went to the business, apologized for accidently breaking the window, apologized for leaving the scene, and provided a check to cover the cost of replacing the window, it wouldn't be worth the businesses while to try to pursue you legally. They want to be made whole and get on with running their business, and you can make them whole.
