I'd like to see more time-related stuff in Protea's kit

Discussion

tl;dr Protea was advertised as a time manipulating frame, but apart from her 4, everything else has nothing to do with time, and I wish it weren't the case. Futhermore, her kit doesn't compliment itself, it feels like a lot of the things were just put into her without considering how useful they are to herself and her abilities.

Upon playing the Deadlock Protocol, it was honestly amazing to see Protea in action, from how she saved Parvos in the void by locking him in a time warp, to how she could bring herself back by rewinding time. However, her kit feels really lacking in that theme. Her 4 is a really great ability, though admittedly it gives me a headache to have to see the entire 5 seconds of my past rush by me and I reverse, everything else has not only nothing to do with time, but also feels really really lacking.

Her 1 is nice, but it feels very, Vauban-y, if you will. It's not a bad ability, but I don't see how useful it is to her entire kit since she won't ever die thanks to 4. It is a decent support ability though

Her 2 is, mediocre. It's got a timer that's completely different from ammo, meaning it's not much of a turret, rather a 2-second, short range flamethrower, but it also just feels so weird. It's damage is fairly unnoticeable, but the fact that it lasts such a small amount of time means that its a wildly insignificant part of her kit. This is without mentioning not having any time-theme.

Her 3 is another interesting ability. Fits her into a supportish type frame, and while I can see the drops being useful in some niche cases, I can't see them being used very often. Most people with health issues run the Magus arcane on their operators, or have the restores. People with energy problems have Arcane Energize or the restore, and people with ammo problems have Carrier and, you guessed it, the restores. Furthermore, this ability is even more useless to her, since her 4 will return health, energy, and ammo.

I can't say she's a bad frame, she's got great support potential with 1 and 3, and her 4, although a bit nauseating to view over and over, is a really cool and original ability. Her 2 feels very weird in her kit, and honestly a waste of energy to put down ever, and although the rest are cool, they don't compliment one another, and don't suit her theme.

As a time themed frame, I was not thinking of a vauban 2.0 feel.

Was she advertised as a time frame though? My earliest memory of Pablo describing her was tech based frame. Which lead people to thinking Vauban would be obsolete. If anything her 4 is the odd ability

I'm not actually sure, just returned to the game after a 6 month-ish hiatus. From the quest, it seems like she was a time themed frame, at least given how much significance DE gave it, Parvos being alive because of time, the specter fight having a time loop, the Solaris recieving Intel from a future that "never happened".

If DE didn't want to advertise Protea as a time themed frame, why the heavy time themes?

Hmm seems they shifted narrative. Apologies ima console player so haven't done the quest. I guess chalk another up to DE's inconsistency with everything.

Edit: For the record her ult always seemed dumb to me and out of nowhere. With 40+frames I guess it's hard to make a congruent kit. I honestly would be okay if they stopped making new frames. Unpopular opinion I know.

This might be a bit of a stretch, but League of Legends (the closest ability-based game I could find to compare) is still going strong and releasing innovative kits after more than 140 characters.

The problem with Warframe is that all of the recent releases try to be self-sufficient in terms of mechanics. Almost every one of them has some damage, tankiness/sustain and CC and strips armor. While this makes a frame fun to play for solo and team players alike, theme coherence tends to suffer under this precept.

Making Protea centered completely around either the sentry or the rewind would have probably shifted her too much into a damage dealer or a tank role, respectively.

I agree. I've felt this ever since I came back around Chains of Harrow. Til this day I consider Harrow the most interesting and cohesive frame yet be really only shines in a vacuum. I saw someone comment that Warframe is a co-op game with no reason to co-op. Team synergies matter very little and any frame that is too specialized finds themselves at the bottom of some YouTuber's tier list.

I know people hate the idea of a sequel and it more than likely would be a waste of resources but Warframe as it stands now is just a mess of ideas duct taped together. It wont ever be challenging or rewarding or balanced enough for today's gaming culture. Any new additions have to use and build on old and sometimes outdated foundations.
