Davos' Storyline in TWOW (Spoilers Extended)

EXTENDED

This is less of a theory and more of a desire for discussion.

A recent thought that I've had is how Davos' storyline could go down a pretty dark path in The Winds of Winter. As the book is expected to be super dark, with plenty of deaths and betrayals.

So lets discuss anything and everything about Davos going forward.

Skaagos

Due to the conversation with Manderly/Wex Pyke, we know that Davos is headed to Skaagos in order to get Rickon/Shaggy.

Skaagos is rumored to be a dark place and I recently posted about it: Everything We Know about Skaagos

Depending on what happens on Skaagos, what are some other plotlines Davos could be involved in?

Northern POVs

One thing to keep in mind is that once Davos leaves Skaagos (presumably for somewhere in the North) we will have 4-5 POVs sitting in one area (Melisandre/Theon/Asha as well as Jon/Davos/Bran in some manner.

Since GRRM is cutting down on the POVs and bringing things back together, it wouldn't surprise me for one or two of the "lesser" POVs to die.

Fingerbones

Mel's glamour quote which I touched on here:

"The bones help," said Melisandre. "The bones remember. The strongest glamors are built of such things. A dead man's boots, a hank of hair, a bag of fingerbones. With whispered words and prayer, a man's shadow can be drawn forth from such and draped about another like a cloak. The wearer's essence does not change, only his seeming." -ADWD, Melisandre I

As Davos reflexively always is reaching for/thinking about his bag of fingerbones, it would be interesting to see how Mel (or another) might use this to their advantage (idk where they would have gotten Davos' bones though).

Mel's Third Shadow

Its possible this could end up following the "rule of 3" and Mel could have a third shadowbaby which is possibly foreshadowed by Patchface and Mel even makes an offer to Davos:

"No." Perhaps he should have lied, and told her what she wanted to hear, but Davos was too accustomed to speaking truth. "You are the mother of darkness. I saw that under Storm's End, when you gave birth before my eyes."

"Is the brave Ser Onions so frightened of a passing shadow? Take heart, then. Shadows only live when given birth by light, and the king's fires burn so low I dare not draw off any more to make another son. It might well kill him." Melisandre moved closer. "With another man, though . . . a man whose flames still burn hot and high . . . if you truly wish to serve your king's cause, come to my chamber one night. I could give you pleasure such as you have never known, and with your life-fire I could make . . ."

". . . a horror." Davos retreated from her. "I want no part of you, my lady. Or your god. May the Seven protect me." -ASOS, Davos III

And while this may not take place with Davos directly, it is important to keep in mind that Davos' son Daven is now not only a fervent follower of R'hllor:

My brothers have ascended to the Hall of Light, to sit beside the Lord. I will pray for them at the nightfires, and for you as well, Father, so you might walk in the Light of the Lord till the end of your days. -ASOS, Davos V

He also seems to be in awe/fear/love wrt Mel:

"Thank you." Melisandre took a sip, swallowed, and gave the boy a smile. That made him blush. The boy was half in love with her, she knew. He fears me, he wants me, and he worships me. -ADWD, Melinsandre I

I do think that Davos survives TWOW, but that it is very possible that there could be some upcoming darkness involved in his storyline wrt Skaagos/Mel/shadowbabies/fingerbones.

Let me know what you think about where his story heads (even some that might not directly involve him just his fingers or his son).

TLDR: Lets Discuss Davos' plotline moving forward
