Redmi Note 8 Pro or Redmi Note 9 Pro?

Hey everyone! First of all, sorry if this is a frequently asked question. So I am looking for a new phone cause my Redmi Note 4X is about to finish its life cycle with 2.5 wonderful years of performance and some months of not so great performance. So my budget is 250 Euros and I have done some research and ended up to those 2 phones (Note 8 Pro is 193 Euros here and Note 9 Pro is 231 Euros). I would love to hear your opinions on this matter, especially if you own one of them. I am also open to suggestions about phones in my price range. Thanks in advance!

Always go with the latest in the series to get updates for longer. I have the 8 Pro and it's just way too good but will most likely not get Android 11 while the Note 9 will. Also the 9 has bigger battery. That being said you still get around 3 years or MIUI and security updates in total for both so it's not like it really matters a ton but still it's worth noting. Also gcam is better on Note 9

Thanks for your tip! I did know about the gcam but wasn't sure if it was worth the price difference, as I am not sure if the whole phone is worth the price difference. You make a good point about the updates tho!

Also one more thing. Note 8 Pro seems to have more frame rate options available in some games for some reason. I don't know if it's still like that but it was on release of the Note 9. Not because it's weaker but because some game developers just don't care much it seems. So if you play games then you should check the difference on YouTube for whatever games you might play.

That is if you care about it ofc.

Yeah, I do care about it generally, but I am not into mobile gaming atm. And that might not change in the near future. I am reading about an issue called WiFi drop. Do you know if this one has been fixed or not? Either way thanks for your tip!

Not sure what you mean. If it's the issue were WiFi randomly disconnects it's because some routers don't work well with Xiaomi phones for some reason.

My old router had this issue with my previous Note 5 and my current Note 8 Pro. Would just randomly disconnect. Since I got a new router it never happened again and neither any place I have visited with WiFi since.

My suggestion go with MI series 8/9 , now those two is at your budget range . I just found out that super wallpaper is only available for the MI series and POCO series , the rest will get the cheap version of that. Which will be worthless as you can get wallpapers like that everywhere .

You can just download the APK file and install them yourself. Also I wouldn't buy a phone based on wallpapers. That's just dumb...

Maybe check mi 9t rather than note 8 pro. But if you just in n8 pro or 9 pro i would say note 9 pro. Its a new phone, will receive more updates, better camera, better battery life... Processors are almost same but i think sd720g is better than mtk. Mtk is 12nm and has heat issue. I have heard about the 9s having wi fi issues and it will be fixed with updates. If i was gonna buy i will buy the 9 pro. But check the mi 9t i think.

I did check it out but I am quite a bit overbudget with that choice (310 Euros here). Is it really worth it the price difference from Note 9 Pro?

Don't think so. It has same performanced processor worse battery (but i heard about its optimization is good) better screen (Amoled) and now it gets MIUI 12 earlier. But i don't think it worth for 80 euros. How about Mi Note 10 Lite's price?

I see and I kinda agree with you. Well, the "same" version as Note 9 Pro in terms of RAM + ROM (6GB+128GB) goes for 290 Euros whereas the 8GB RAM one goes for 342 Euros. I might be able to find all them for cheaper but it will require quite a lot of work(I am already off-road and away from the big retailer stores and looking for the little ones)

PS: The price difference I gave you above was for the 6/128 version of 9T, as well.

I've just got a Note 9 Pro. It's excellent and should obviously last you a bit further into the future than an older model, but there is a definite issue with it dropping WiFi connection (and failing to reconnect) on sleep, as explained here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-9-pro/help/xiaomi-redmi-note-9s-wifi-stops-leaving-t4085213/amp/

If it weren't for the suggestion that an update is imminent, I'd be a bit more annoyed because it basically stops any notifications happening over WiFi when you're not using the phone.

Does it only drop on wifi? Or is mobile data dropping too when phone goes to sleep?

Just WiFi.
