I have no idea how but Fire pro world is far more taxing on my laptop than either Civ6 or Football Manager (a sim with even more depth than fire pro)
It freezes all the time in the menus too
I can't seem to find any way to optimise it for my PC in game, is there a mod that does this?

No mod, but i'd check your vsync settings and switch it to the opposite of however you have it currently, and lower the resolution. Fire Pro is lo-fi enough that you really aren't gaining much or any detail when going above 1280x720. I've run FP on a PC with no gfx card and 2gb of RAM, so it's pretty much inconceivable that any relatively modern laptop would be unable to run it smoothly with the right settings.
My 6 year old laptop can’t run FP well. Matches slow down after about 20 mins of play.
It runs ok at 640x360 res in windowed mode. It’s like playing on a phone!
